This paper provides practical guidelines for building an effective mobile Field Force Workflow Automation program across multiple departments. The business drivers for automating the field components are usually obvious. The technology is widely available to support field workers and their data. However expensive, hard to use, customized implementations continue to delay widespread adoption. This paper offers a generalized workflow automation architecture supporting multiple applications, departments, data flows and field crews. This lets us examine practical alternatives for constructing a mobile field force workflow automation program. Finally, we mention typical obstacles to automating field processes, steps in the mobility implementation process and critical success factors.
