To meet expanding regulations and achieve better performance, Lafayette Sani-Wash is building two structures to house water treatment equipment and two boilers.
For more than 23 years the family-run business has washed and sanitized the inside of tankers that haul starch, milk, corn syrup and even peanut butter, owner Bob Young said.
The cleaning processes includes a 15-minute continual wash of 185-degree water to kill bacteria.
Wastewater is treated on site, separating oils and solids. The structure will allow tighter controls on the treatment system throughout the year and stay within federal guidelines, Young said.
"We do everything we can to keep (solids) out of the drain," he said.
Steam and water are the main tools for Sani-Wash. The boiler room will house a 70- and new 150-horsepower boiler.
More than 80 trucks can roll through the business for a cleaning in 24 hours, Young said. |
