Editorial

More than a billion people worldwide lack safe water sources, and 2.6 billion i.e. 40 percent of the world’s population have no basic sanitation. Nearly 2 million people a day, 90 percent of them children under 5, die from dehydration, associated malnutrition, and microbial diseases.

Lack of water treatment and sanitation facilities, industrial water pollution and ongoing shortage through climate change are the main reasons, but are also the driving factors for the development of the markets.  Increasing quantity, but not quality of water is the result of a survey in more than 50 countries in the last 6 months.

The worldwide markets for water and wastewater investments and operations reached 312 billion USD in 2006 and is expected to increase up to 625.7 billion USD in 2015.
