Despite numerous advances in the water industry, basic scarcities still lurk in many areas, one being the unavailability of drinking water in several developing countries. Towards this need, GE is supplying its ecomagination-certified solar energy modules and water filtration technology to a new initiative, to increase the availability of clean drinking water in rural areas of India and in other countries of Southeast Asia and Africa.
According to the World Health Organization, 1.1 billion people around the world lack access to safe water sources. “By 2020 much of the world is expected to confront severe water shortages, and countries like India, will face a lack of water coupled with unprecedented infrastructure issues, shifts in population, and rapid industrial growth rates,” said Jeff Garwood, president and CEO of GE Water & Process Technologies.
