Title Risk-Cost Analysis for the Regulation of Airborne Toxic Substances in a Developing Context
Author R. O’Ryan, M. Díaz
Company University of Chile
Synopsis
In most developing countries multiple toxic substances are emitted in an unregulated way by industrial processes. Technologies are usually old and emissions impact directly a significant exposed population. Increasing concern for the health effects of these emissions – both by the affected population and health officials – is leading to increasing pressures to reduce, sometimes dramatically, these toxic releases.

The World Water Week conference, being held between 12 and 18 August 2007, is currently underway in Stockholm. It is a leading annual global meeting place for capacity-building, partnership-building and follow-up on the implementation of international processes and programs in water and development.

At the conference, the Stockholm International Water Institute reported that biofuel production will cause current agricultural demand for water to double.

GE is working closely with organizers of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to provide industry-leading energy and water treatment technology.

Lately, extreme weather conditions appear to be increasing with devastating results. As a result, millions of people have been left with no access to drinking water. The public needs to be educated on sensible water usage before such scenarios arise.
