Title Guidelines for the Safe Use of Urine and Faeces in Ecological Sanitation Systems
Author EcoSanRes
Company EcoSanRes
Synopsis
Soil is a natural sanitization system for faeces, but its effectiveness is difficult to predict. Contamination of urine with faeces considerably increases the need for urine sanitization. Current WHO guidelines stipulate that if a set of barriers are maintained, treatment of excreta is not considered necessary. This paper tracks the WHO's practical recommendations on reuse of urine and faeces.

Editorial

"Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink". This is, to a degree, a realistic situation what the world is going through at the moment.  It is not just about the available water resources, but the way it is being maintained and managed.  In that sense, striking a balance between the gifts of nature is pivotal in today’s scenario, climate being one of them.

The Climate Change Conference is the first attempt made to bring the water industry, supply chain and the key stakeholders together to debate and discuss the various water issues to be faced in the next 25 years. With the new reverse osmosis water filters from Royal Springs, ideal low cost solutions for treating bore water for organic farming have now been made possible.  Filtration Expo, the world’s largest filtration industry event is set for November at Navy Pier.

The new GRP pipe supply from Amiantit is of vital importance for the irrigation of a large agricultural area.  These pipes and fittings are produced using the Flowtite manufacturing process, a technology exclusively owned by Amiantit.  Atlantium Technologies Ltd. has won the Institute of Food Technologist’s award for its innovative Hydro-Optic Disinfection (HOD) systems.
