Editorial

In a recent Gallop survey, most consumers said they drink bottled water because they perceive it to be purer than tap water, taste and convenience being major factors.

But according to Florida-based sports nutritionist Cynthia Sass, bottled water is not necessarily healthier or safer than tap water.

"Twenty-five percent of all bottled water is actually repackaged tap water", she said at the American College of Sports Medicine 11th annual Health and Fitness Summit in Dallas.

Experts say bottled water is simply filtered tap water. Filtration systems that tout bringing back the taste to tap may prove to be the more cost efficient solution to better tasting and healthier water.

Look out for more interesting updates in the next issue of Water IDeaS.
