In recent years there has been much activity in the filed of water pollution control due to growing concern over the state of the environment. The need to find effective solutions to water pollution problems has led to an increasing demand for synthetic polyelectrolytes (polymeric flocculants), which are renowned for their ability to enhance solid-liquid separation. In particular, there has been a considerable growth in the application of cationic polyelectrolytes, which are especially effective in the coagulation and flocculation of organic pollutants found in municipal and some industrial wastewaters and sludges.
