MWH Labs is on the list of UCMR2 approved laboratories.  MWH Labs is one of a very limited number of labs nationwide who have demonstrated the capability for doing both Assessment Monitoring and Screening Monitoring under the UCMR2 program.  Based on demonstration of capability and passing Proficiency Testing samples (PT) in 2006 for EPA methods 521, 525, 527, 529, and 535, MWH Labs has received approval from EPA for testing for these contaminants under the Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR2).  This allows MWH to perform Assessment and Screening Monitoring for any utilities serving over 10,000 people.  Under the UCMR2 lab approval program, laboratories conducting the testing must submit complete data packages to EPA for review.  Following acceptance of the data packages, the lab is eligible to participate in proficiency testing to gain final approval for conducting testing under the Regulation.  MWH Labs has met all of these criteria.

UCMR2 monitoring is scheduled to commence in January 2008.  If you are a utility which needs to perform UCMR2 monitoring, you must provide EPA's SDWARS system with your contact information by April 4, 2007.  If you are planning on submitting a representative ground water monitoring program (which we can assist you with), that plan must be submitted by May 4, 2007.  You must have your monitoring schedule and inventory of sample sites finalized in SDWARS by August 2, 2007.

Surface water systems must conduct 4 consecutive rounds of sampling on a quarterly basis and groundwater systems must conduct 2 rounds of sampling, 5 to 7 months apart.  All systems serving more than 100,000 people must conduct both Assessment and Screening Monitoring, and all systems serving over 10,000 people must conduct Assessment monitoring.  Additionally, a subset of 10,000-100,000 population systems must conduct Screening monitoring.  A number of systems serving <10,000 will do either Assessment + Screening or Assessment only under a separate contract managed by EPA.

Please contact MWH Labs (www.mwhlabs.com) for budgeting and further assistance in support of your UCMR2 compliance efforts.
