Purolator Facet, Inc. is a creative engineering and manufacturing organization offering fluid mechanics and porous media technology to address specific needs for diverse markets. A host of custom and standard products is available for fluid filtration, fluidization, acoustic attenuation, separation, transpiration cooling and many other applications.

Purolator Facet manufactures and designs filters, elements, indicators, switches, scavenge lube oil kits, cabin air filters, and acoustic media for the aerospace and industrial hydraulic markets.

Cleanable stainless steel elements, self-cleaning filters, fluidizing media, filter septa tubes and high temperature gas filters are manufactured for use in chemical processing, power generation, and industrial applications.

For more than forty years, Purolator Products Company has been a leading supplier of hydraulic filters and elements to the aerospace industry. These products were designed and manufactured with space-age materials and processes that provided cost-effective, dependable filter solutions. Along the way, Purolator led the industry in many important ways:

- We were the first filter company to employ microglass fiber technology to provide extended-life filter media. Today, our Microfil® III media continues to provide superior contaminant capacity and filter element life.
- We were the first filter manufacturer to adopt multipass testing as a way to characterize and define filter element performance. These test methods are considered industry standards today.
- We developed proprietary mathematical models which we use in the research and development of Microfil® III and other filter media. We continue to use these models to develop superior media for numerous applications.
- We pioneered the use of dynamic environmental test chambers to test filters at temperatures to -60° F., simulating flight conditions at extreme altitudes. This equipment is also used to predict filter performance in hostile environments on the ground.
- We installed a filter medial development laboratory which also includes a state-of-the-art Fordrinier media-making machine. We use this laboratory for empirical testing of our proprietary media, models and designs.
- We developed and produced some of the industry's first integrated filter systems, which include filter element bypass valves, differential pressure indicators and remote electrical switches. Today, our Microdelta® switches and indicators are specified by numerous aerospace and industrial OEMs.
- We developed and authored SAE Specification ARP901, "Bubble-Point Testing of Porous Media." This specification has become the industry standard specification used to determine a filter media's maximum pore size.

Now, Purolator brings its extensive hydraulic filtration expertise to the industrial fluid power market with a full line of filters, elements, breathers, strainers and accessories.

Spin-On Filters

Purolator invented the spin-on filter and continues to lead the industry today. Our industrial spin-on filters are designed to provide superior filtration performance and convenience. They will fit most existing spin-on heads and are readily interchangeable with most competitive filters. We also offer a full range of die-cast aluminum heads and gauges.

Filter Elements

Elements are the porous devices that perform the actual process of filtration. Purolator offers a broad range of media to handle virtually any requirement. Read the details on our three major media types below.

Microfil® III media are made from micro-fine glass fibers which are randomly laid into a multilayered web. The media are impregnated with proprietary resins and thermally cured for strength and stability. They are engineered with tapered pore geometry to provide superior contaminant capacity.

Micropleat® media are made from resin-impregnated cellulose materials. The media are then pleated and assembled into economical Micropleat disposable elements. Micropleat elements are rated at Beta = 2 and are available in standard grades of 5, 10, 20, and 40 microns. They are designed and tested to withstand 150 and 300 psid collapse pressure.

Poromesh® media are multiple layers of sintered wire cloth which are pleated to maximize filter area and on-stream life. Our proprietary sintering process metallurgically bonds each woven wire to adjacent wires to maintain the desired micron rating of the media even under severe pressures. Poromesh media are made from 316L stainless steel wire meshes for excellent corrosion resistance and high temperature tolerance.

Breathers and Strainers

Purolator offers a full line of hydraulic reservoir breathers and filler breathers. These products filter the air which breathes into and out of the reservoir, helping to maintain hydraulic fluid purity.

Purolator suction strainers are used as coarse filtration on the suction inlet of the hydraulic pump. They are made of die-cast aluminum end caps, plated steel cores, and stainless steel filtration mesh.

Reservoir Elements

Purolator Facet micronic reservoir elements, utilizing 10 micron Micropleat® media, have higher efficiency and greater filtering area than any competitive product in this classification. This higher quality, lower weight, plus careful inspection and packaging, assures the user of maximum protection for hydraulc cylinders, pumps, valves or other closely fitted parts.

Switches and Indicators

MICRO DELTA® differential pressure devices sense the differential pressure directly across the filter element. At a preset limit, the indicator will actuate, signaling the need to change the filter element. This permits maximum use of the element, requiring element changing only when the full dirt holding capacity is reached, rather than changing elements on a periodic time basis which may result in premature disposal of "still useful" elements.

Filter Assemblies

Purolator Facet, Inc. is a creative engineering and manufacturing organization offering a wide variety of services and products. Purolator Facet manufactures an assortment of standard filter assemblies qualified to many industry and military standards. High, medium and low pressure filter housings approved to the requirements of MS-28720 and AN6234 meet the filtration requirements of MIL-F-5504, also sections of MIL-F-8815. These filters are just some of the industry standard products available.

Fuel Filters

Fuel filter assemblies are designed to meet your application's most stringent performance requirements. Each filter is designed with the utmost attention paid to performance and reliability. Products include engine or airframe mounted, main or last chance fuel filters.

Lubrication Oil Filters

Lubrication oil filters are designed to provide the extra-fine filtration and dirt holding capacity required to increase the operating life and reduce operating costs of aircraft transmissions and engines. By removing the contaminants found in these systems, transmission parts and engine bearings will operate more efficiently which equates to safer and extended operating times at reduced cost.

Hydraulic Oil Filters

Hydraulic oil filters are designed to provide an extra-fine degree of filtration in today's ever increasingly complex hydraulic system. These filters protect all of the components used in these systems from foreign-born contaminants and contaminants generated by normal system operation. Removing these contaminants is crucial to protect the fine clearances found in hydraulic system components.

Bypass Indicators and Switches

Purolator Facet designs and manufactures an assortment of bypass and differential pressure indicators for all types of aerospace applications. Purolator Microdelta® differential pressure indicators provide visual indication of a filter element's impending or bypass condition. Also available are electrical filter bypass switches, which, when connected to a cockpit warning system, will alert operators of a possible filter bypass condition.

Scavenge Lube Oil Filter Kits for Helicopters and Fixed-Wing Aircraft

Facet Scavenge Oil Filters provide superior engine protection to operators of turbine powered helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. By filtering oil downstream of the scavenge pumps, our filters remove the contaminants generated by the engine (carbon and metal wear particles). This protects the oil cooler, reservoir, and engine.

Cabin Air Filters

Purolator Facet's ever-expanding line of cabin air recirculation filters for commercial aircraft is designed to efficiently remove typical contaminants...and in the process, provide a measure of protection to both passengers and crew.

Electronic Equipment (E/E) Cooling Filters

Purolator Facet's E/E cooling filters are designed to satisfy the stringent requirements of aircraft manufacturers by removing harmful contaminants from the cooling air used to maintain today's high-tech avionics equipment.

Purolator Acoustic Porous Metals

Purolator Facet Inc. offers an extensive line of porous metal face sheet membrane material for engine nacelle acoustic treatment. Rayl values from 3 to 140 CGS have been produced with or without a supporting perforated sheet. Rayl value is normally defined as a ratio of pressure drop to flow. It is selected based on sound intensities and pressure levels. Panel sizes are 20" x 30" to 24" x 48" and non-linearity factors are usually less than 1.4 based on 200/20 CGS rayl readings. Thickness varies from .005" to .60".

Purolator produces three basic types of acoustic face sheet material:

- Poromesh®-Single layers of wire cloth diffusion bonded at points of crossover and calendared.
- Poroplate®-Multi-layers of wire mesh, alldiffusion bonded and calendared.
- Poroplate®-Mesh and perforated plate combinations with one or more layers of wire cloth diffusion bonded and calendared to obtain given rayl value and then diffusion bonded to perforated plate.

Metaledge® Self-Cleaning Filters

Metaledge® Self-Cleaning Filters - Wedge shaped stainless steel ribbon with raised projections, wound edgewise on a cylindrical frame, and scraped by a knife edge. The knife edge removes the contaminant from the surface of the element, and is drained periodically from the sump. Metaledge® filters have been designed to filter the most viscous of fluids.

Poroplate® Backwashable Filter Elements

Poroplate® filter laminates consist of multiple layers of precision woven wire mesh filter media. These layers of mesh are metallurgically bonded through a unique and proprietary sintering process. The commercially pure hydrogen atmosphere of the furnace ensures that the media remains clean and free of any oxidation during the sintering process.

Filter Housings

Filter housings are available from Purolator to accept most filter elements. Standard size housings as well as custom designed housings are available. Purolator Products offers design engineering service for all new filter applications.

Purolator’s Poroplate® hot gas filters are application engineered and manufactured to optimize your process.
