Water Treatment
Water treatment is the traditional and one of the largest application fields of ion exchange resins. Constantly growing demands on water quality require increasing sophistication of both the ion exchange resins and the related application technologies. The use of Lewatit resins offers advantages in almost all processes of water treatment, which can be divided roughly into 3 subject areas, each with a number of applications: Industrial Water Potable Water UltraPure Water

Industrial Water
For the generation of power and for chemical production processes, such as refineries, huge amounts of treated and cleaned water are needed to protect the technical components (e.g. turbines, steam boilers, piping) against corrosion. Condensate Polishing Continous condensate check Dealkalization Demineralization Inert material Mixed-bed Nuclear resins Ready-to-use mixed-beds Softening

Potable Water
The potable water treatment plays an important role in both foodstuffs and domestic industries. Often legislative requirements, like those for drinking water, can only be met through ion exchange. In private households, softened water prevents the encrusting of sanitary facilities and gives prepared drinks a more pleasant taste. Dealkalization Heavy metal removal Removal of nitrate Softening of potable water Tap water preparation

UltraPure Water
Ultrapure water is necessary in the production of semiconductors in the electronics industry and in the pharmaceutical industry. Due to the highest requirements concerning water quality with respect to conductivity and TOC release, only carefully cleaned and conditioned ion exchange resins can be used. Bayer has developed such resins, named UltraPure, which meet these exacting requirements. Demineralization Polishing
