CUSTOMER SERVICE

KEG is a different type of nozzle company.

Our territory managers have years of field experience with combination trucks, jetter trailers, nozzles, and video systems. We simply refuse to put a nozzle in a box, send it to our customers, and then forget about them until the next order. When you do business with KEG, you work with knowledgeable professionals who can visit your job site or yard, demonstrate how KEG products work, and help you determine the best application for each product.

KEG's territory managers can also perform a diagnostic on your equipment to provide an assessment of the performance of your truck or trailer; we will also provide some very good tips on maintenance and pipe cleaning techniques as well. If your current nozzle supplier doesn't provide you with this kind of "expert" service, shouldn't you become a KEG customer today?

Nozzle Design and Selection - Nozzle Efficiencies-What to Look For

Nozzle design and selection is similar to picking an automobile. The buyer’s choices are endless, but the buyer must make certain decisions: what style, performance characteristics, etc. Every car will move the buyer from Point A to Point B, just as every nozzle will clean sewer lines in some fashion. The question remains, “in what style and at what price” does the buyer wish to travel or clean. Sewer cleaning nozzles are very much the same. The “nozzle educated” buyer must chose between different types of nozzles to determine first cost, performance characteristics, and life cycle costs that fit the budget and match the scope of the job being undertaken. KEG is ready to assist the buyer in making these decisions.

Tier One, Tier Two, and Tier Three Nozzles

The National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) divides sewer cleaning nozzles into three categories (see NASSCO Jetting Code of Practice or visit NASSCO’s website on-line at www.nassco.org). Each category has its design and performance characteristics. KEG’s 2007 Product Catalog utilizes the NASSCO* designations to assist our customers in making informed buying decisions.

Tier One - Nozzles or cleaning tools that have a drilled orifice for creating pressure and have a flat inner surface for receiving and /or redirecting water flow to the orifices are Tier One. The flat inner surface is not efficient from a fluid mechanics perspective. Tier One nozzles are the least expensive to purchase, but also provide lesser performance than the other strata of nozzles. A buyer of Tier One nozzles would be driven by first cost, not product performance or longevity.

Tier Two - Nozzles or cleaning tools that have a replaceable threaded insert or a more rounded inner surface for water redirection are Tier Two. Tier Two nozzles provide a longer service life due to the replaceable threaded inserts provided, and often have better fluid mechanics than Tier One. A buyer of Tier Two nozzles would be driven by greater concern for performance and longer service life of the equipment.

Tier Three - Nozzles that have a replaceable threaded insert and a more rounded, higher efficiency inner surface for water redirection are Tier Three. A buyer of Tier Three nozzles would be driven by total owning costs (performance, durability) rather than first cost.

Nozzle Performance and Usage - Variables of Nozzle Performance

In selecting a cleaning tool for a specific job, and to operate the tool on a specific jetter or sewer combination truck, the operator must know the variables of flow (GPM), pressure (PSI), hose size (diameter in inches), and hose length (feet). All of these variables interact to affect the performance of a sewer cleaning tool. Improper use and alignment of these variables will not allow the tool to perform correctly or will adversely affect the operator’s ability to accomplish his/her job. KEG has developed in-house proprietary software to assist our customers in configuring their equipment for optimum cleaning performance. Contact your KEG Territory Manager for more information on these important nozzle configuration issues.

Flow Rate Versus Pressure

Flow (measured in GPM) is a vital component of the cleaning process. Generally, lower flows as generated by a pump are used to clean smaller diameter pipes, and flow in GPM typically increases as the diameter of pipe increases. Conversely, pressures generated by the tool (measured in PSI) are usually higher when cleaning smaller diameter pipes, and pressure in PSI usually decreases as the diameter of the pipe increases.

Length of Hose

A final word on configuration includes careful selection of hose size. As the table above suggests, hose of a certain diameter has a finite range of efficient operation. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in significant pressure losses at the nozzle or cleaning tool. KEG can assist you and train your operators in the correct selection of tools for your particular equipment configurations.

Specialized Tools For Specific Pipe Conditions

KEG attempts to educate our customers as well as supply them with quality products. An effective technique we have adopted is offering nozzle "kits" for the entire pipe cleaning process. Pipe cleaning professionals should not view their task as a "one time, put out the fire" approach using whatever nozzle or cleaning tool is at hand at the moment. Rather, pipe cleaning should be viewed as a systematic process that requires different tools for different stages of the process. KEG nozzle kits give our customers a full application range, providing specific tools for specific pipe cleaning applications.

Nozzle Kits - Defined

KEG offers our customers nozzle kits in three different configurations: 1/2”, 3/4”, and 1” hose thread sizes. The contents of each kit are as follows:

1/2” Kit: Required nozzles include the Triple Edged Quattro, Cleaning and Traction. A Forward Jet, Drill Point Quattro, Sewer Flush, or Rotor nozzle may also be added.

3/4” Kit: Required nozzles include a Torpedo, Rambo, Cleaning, and Traction. A Rotor, Royal, Sewer , or Sewer Flush may also be added.

1” Kit: Required nozzles include a Torpedo, Rambo, Cleaning, and Traction. A Royal, Rotor, Sewer, or Sewer Flush may also be added.

Pipe Cleaning Packages - Plumber’s, Sanitary, and Storm Water

Plumber’s Package

For plumbing contractors and small municipal applications, KEG would offer the 1/2” Kit (pictured above) with the basic set up of the Triple Edged Quattro, Cleaning, and the Traction nozzle. KEG’s Forward Jet, Drill Point Quattro, or Rotor nozzles might be added as complimentary tools. With the further addition of a Micro or Mini Chain Cutter, and a 5 Jet Floor Cleaner, the plumbing contractor or the small municipal operator would be well fitted with cleaning tools for all applications.

Sanitary Package

In North America, the most common sanitary line diameters are 6” and 8”. Therefore, an ideal “sanitary package” from KEG would include the Rambo for clog penetration, the Traction for cleaning damaged pipes or heavy debris, the Torpedo for maintenance cleaning, the Cleaning for high wall force cleaning, and the Rotor for grease removal. The addition of a 5 Jet, 8 Jet, or 10 Jet Floor Cleaner would allow cleaning of larger feeder lines. The Super Cutter Plus 150 Chain Cutter would be recommended for root and scale removal. KEG’s Sanitary Package would be aperfect mix for most municipal cleaning and maintenance applications.

Storm Package

Storm Water cleaning usually involves few diameters less than 12”. KEG would suggest a Storm Water package consisting of the Torpedo, Cleaning, Rambo, and Traction. A large Floor Cleaner ( 8 Jet to 14 Jet) would also be a good choice. Finally a Super Cutter Plus 200 Chain Cutter to 36” diameter would round out an excellent storm package.

Pipe Cleaning Process

KEG products are the reasons our customers come back to us time and again for their sewer cleaning needs. With unique "water driven" designs and patented fluid mechanics, KEG products produce outstanding cleaning results, and typically use less fuel, man-hours, and water than competing products to get the job done. Our customers spend more time "in the line" cleaning and less time breaking down their trucks and refilling with water.

Cleaning Nozzle Line

  • Ball or Standard - drilled nozzles
  • Forward Jet - cleaning service laterals
  • Traction - patented, sand, mud removal
  • Cleaning - patented, maintenance cleaning
  • Sewer - patented, maintenance cleaning
  • Torpedo - patented, for maintenance cleaning
  • Royal - patented, maintenance cleaning

For small residential applications, our Ball or Standard nozzles are efficient, cost effective tools for cleaning sewer lines. KEG’s Forward Jet Nozzle is ideal for working blockages away from the home toward the sewer main. KEG also offers the Sewer Flush Nozzle, an excellent mid-efficiency, mid priced Tier Two nozzle available with steel or titanium ceramic inserts. For jobs where a tight water pattern is needed to remove sand or mud, our Traction Nozzle is recommended. For larger sewer cleaning jobs where high efficiency cleaning is desired, KEG also recommends our Cleaning and Sewer Nozzles. Finally, for maximum cleaning power in larger diameter sanitary lines, our Torpedo Nozzle or Royal Nozzle perform the toughest cleaning jobs!

Penetrating Nozzle Line

  • Drill Point Quattro - clogs and grease
  • Triple Edged Quattro - sand and trash
  • Rambo - clogs, grease, obstructions

When the toughest clogs and obstructions are encountered in a sewer line, KEG recommends any of our high performance penetrating nozzles for the task at hand. For total blockages caused by roots, grease, or other impediments to flow, choose our Triple Edge Quattro or Drill Point Quattro Nozzles. Or, in 3/4”, 1”, and 1.25” applications, our Rambo Nozzle combines the performance of both the Triple Edged Quattro and Drill Point Quattro nozzles into a merciless pipe cleaning dynamo!

Finishing Nozzle Line

  • Rotor - grease removal before inspection

When contractors or municipalities “finish” a pipe cleaning job, they often view “streaks” on the pipe walls during their video inspection. These “streaks” are actually grease residue that has not been removed by the other cleaning processes. KEG offers our Rotor Nozzle for this purpose. The free spinning Rotor will remove those last grease deposits, along with tender roots and other vegetation, to “ensure perfect pipe cleaning and a finished job”, hence our finishing label.

Floor Cleaner Line

  • 5 Jet - patented, 6" to 12" lines
  • 6 Jet - patented, 10" to 20" lines
  • 8 Jet - patented, 12" to 24" lines
  • 10 Jet - patented, 15" to 40" lines
  • 12 Jet - patented, 18" lines and up
  • 14 Jet - patented, 20" lines and up

KEG’s 5 to 14 jet floor cleaners, utilizing KEG’s patented fluid mechanics, provide truly superior cleaning efficiency in large diameter pipes. Superior to other bottom nozzles in both fluid mechanics and jet angle design, our floor cleaners put the pump’s power on the floor of larger diameter pipes—where the debris is! KEG floor cleaners “jet” away your toughest clogs in storm and large sanitary lines.

Chain Cutter Line:

  • Micro Cutter - 2" to 4" lines
  • Mini Chain - 4" to 8" lines
  • Super 150 Plus - 6" to 15" lines
  • Super 200 Plus - 8" to 48" lines

KEG offers four models for customers with root infiltration or grease and scaling problems. Beginning with the Micro Chain Cutter in 2” to 4” applications, Mini Chain Cutter in 3” to 8” applications, the Super Cutter Plus 150 for 6” to 15” pipes, and finally the Super Cutter Plus 200 for pipes 8” to 48”, KEG’s family of chain cutters has the flexibility to handle most heavy obstruction removal.

Kleen-Vue System:

  • Cleaning and inspection at same time
  • Recordable video/audio
  • High efficiency cleaning unit
  • Wireless technology - wireless image transmission
  • Applications - SANITARY, STORM

KEG’s goal is to provide the absolute best sewer cleaning equipment for our customers. Our combination cleaning nozzle unit with video inspection, the KLEEN-VUE SYSTEM camera offers our customers the unparalleled ability to clean a sewer or storm line and record and watch the process as it happens. This one-of-a-kind patented product provides the operator immediate visual feedback on pipe conditions as they are cleaned, saving time, water, and fuel. Utilizing the Kleen-Vue System, contractors or municipalities will be able to clean more footage, provide documentation as needed, and maximize the effectiveness of traditional camera and video systems.
