Industrial Filters and Water Well Screens
Surface Water
Wire Pulp Pressure Screens

Filtration Systems: Industrial and Stainless Steel Filters, Water Well, Wire Pulp Pressure and Intake Screens, and Surface Transfer Pumps

Water Treatment

The water treatment processes involve several filtration processes. Johnson Screens has developed a large range of food grade / drinking water quality stainless steel filters to satisfy all your needs. We have extensive experience with carbon (GAC), resin, demineralization, softening, ion exchange and waste water treatment. The Triton underdrain has been specifically designed for water clarification with all types of media (sand, GAC).

Johnson Screens® can help you optimize the distribution and collection of the processed liquids as well as the backwash sequences while retaining the media (resins, sand). Our experts will also support you in the material selection process to avoid corrosion problems and maximize the reliability and service life of your systems.

Potable Water Treatment

Johnson® screens’ unique properties make them ideally suited for drinking water applications. We provide filters made of all drinking water grades of stainless steel. We supply a range of patented products:

  • Environmentally friendly water intakes (Ssof A 316b compliant to pump water from lakes, seas and rivers)
  • Triton underdrains that will help you improve your sand and CAG gravity filters

We also custom design and build any specific separation solution to comply with any local or national Engineering standards using best practice manufacturing processes.

Waste & Industrial Process Water

Johnson® screens’ unique properties make them ideally suited for waste water applications. They can be found in static separation in many food and beverage, cheese, meat and slaughterhouse operations. They also provide you with optimum performance and safety in process water applications.

No matter which liquid and solids you have to handle or which type of cleaning / regeneration fluids are involved we will design the most efficient screening system in the material best suited to optimize service life and corrosion resistance thus protecting your equipment, your products and the environment.

Water Well Screens

Stainless Steel Filters

More and more statutory controls are applied to water abstraction from rivers, streams, lakes and coastal water. To help you stick to these more demanding environmental regulations, Johnson Screens® has developed a range of patented products that are now approved by several governmental agencies, both in Europe and in the Americas.

Johnson’s experienced field sales staff or applications engineers will provide you with the optimum financial and technical solution.

Regulatory Compliance

Johnson Vee-Wire® screens have been identified as best available technology by regulatory agencies around the world. In fact, Johnson Screens® is the compliant company approved under Section 316b of the EPA (*) Clean Water Act.

The non-plugging high open area design meets the most demanding flow requirements while the smooth flat surface provides a safe barrier for fish and fish egg protection. Johnson Screen’s designs can maintain a slot velocity of under 0.5 fps / 0.135 m/s or lower. This is critical to creating a non-fish impinging environment and complying with all fish screening regulations.

In the U.S. Johnson Screens are approved by U.S. EPA and National Marine Fisheries Society. In Europe, our intakes are officially approved in France (ACS-Attestation de Conformité Sanitaire), in the UK (DWI-Drinking Water Inspectorate) and are compatible with the “European Water Framework Directive.”

Intake Screens

Intakes for drinking water plants, fish hatcheries, industrial process water, power plant cooling water, desalination plants, and many other applications require careful design consideration in order to responsibly protect the aquatic life at the intake.

Passive Intake Screens equipped with Johnson’s primary filtration Hydroburst™ System (detailed description below) are designed to reduce slot entrance velocity (0.135 m/s or 0.5 f/s). Lower entrance velocity protects surrounding aquatic life and prevents debris clogging. This technology can be implemented wherever high volumes of surface water are required.

Its main advantages are:

Low investment cost - The Intake Screen is directly linked to a backflow tube. The absence of civil engineering considerably reduces the cost and delay of catchment projects.

Low maintenance - Johnson Intake Screen is robust and has no incorporated moving parts. It is designed to prevent clogging, and the materials used are resistant to corrosion and scale.

Respect for the environment - The flow rate through the screen is so low that neither flora nor fauna can be dragged into the apparatus.

Easy cleaning - The Air backwash system is controlled remotely and does not require underwater handling.

No waste management - Waste is dragged by the backwash current.

Optimum adaptability - Each Intake Screen is designed to be adapted to specific site conditions including:

  • the type of water (choice of material to obtain optimum resistance to corrosion and biofouling)
  • dimensions of the particles to be held back (slot selection, 0.12 in. / 3 mm on average)
  • water source features (flow rate, depth, current), and available space (S or T-type intakes)

Hydroburst® System

To restore efficient screen performance Johnson offers its Hydroburst System. This system maintains screen cleanliness by generating a periodic blast of air through the screen assembly. For certain applications, slide rails offer a cleaning alternative by raising the screen to the water’s surface.

This system has four primary components:

  • a compressor for recharging the air receiver tank
  • a receiver tank which stores the compressed air supplied by the compressor
  • an assembly of air-actuated valves and piping, which connects the receiver to the water intake
  • a control panel, for manual or automatic operation

The typical backwash procedure cleans each water intake sequentially at regular intervals. If needed, it is possible to clean several water intakes at once.
