The City of Guelph (City) has undertaken a source water characterization study that has identified several of the water sources at the Arkell Spring Ground and Carter water supplies as groundwater under the direct influence (GUDI) of surface water with effective in-situ filtration (WEF). This source water designation requires the provision of enhanced disinfection under Ontario Drinking Water Regulation (O. Reg.) 170/03 and forms the basis for treatment upgrades mandated by the Ministry of the Environment as specified in the City’s Certificate of Approval.
Stantec Consulting Ltd., and their subconsultant Associated Engineering, were retained to conduct a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to investigate options for providing this additional treatment. In addition to the treatment upgrades, the City is proactively undertaking further upgrades to maintain the reliability and security of this supply. Several of these infrastructure upgrades were also addressed within this study.
