Programming Tools & Protocols
Programming Tools Control Microsystems offers a choice of three programming environments for use with its SCADAPack controller product family: TelePACE Relay Ladder Logic, ISaGRAF (IEC 61131-3) and Multitasking C and C++. TelePACE Relay Ladder Logic TelePACE is Control Microsystems’ proprietary programming environment. This easy to use software package allows users to develop relay ladder logic networks for use in SCADAPack controllers. The software runs on Windows NTTM, Windows 98TM and Windows 95TM platforms. The TelePACE environment was designed with ease of use in mind. The TelePACE Ladder Editor allows the programmer to assign tag names to process I/O addresses and data registers. With drag and drop control, the programmer can place a wide array of functions in the ladder network including: contacts, outputs, counters, PID controllers, HART interface functions and more. Once complete the programmer can upload the application to the SCADAPack controller through a direct or network connection. Using the online monitoring function a field engineer can edit the program while online, providing a highly efficient debugging environment. ISaGRAF Technician License The ISaGRAF Technician License is now available for SCADAPack and SCADAPack E-Series controllers. Designed to enhance the flexibility of the company’s ISaGRAF IEC61131-3 programming platform, the new Technician’s License is for field technicians who need only to download controller code and monitor process values in real time. The ISaGRAF Technician License provides most of the functionality of an I/O count-based license at a reduced price, by disabling the commands required to build and edit ISaGRAF logic code. Code is developed and compiled elsewhere on an ISaGRAF I/O-licensed Workbench and then provided to the technician who uses their Technician-Licensed Workbench to download the code to the controller. Control Microsystems’ ISaGRAF provides a user-friendly, flexible environment for developing, debugging, and downloading SCADAPack controller logic code; and provides local and remote access to the process via Intranet or Internet technologies. The ISaGRAF Application Workbench includes six automation languages, the five IEC61131-3 languages plus Flow Chart: Sequential Function Chart, Functional Block Diagram, Ladder Diagram, Structured Text, Instruction List, and Flow Chart. For more information visit: www.controlmicrosystems.com. IEC 61131-3 IEC 61131-3 is the first global standard in control programming. By standardizing the control system interface this programming environment complements the manner in which technicians and engineers design, program, operate and maintain industrial control systems. The IEC 61131-3 software package includes the five main languages: Sequential Function Chart (SFC), Instruction List (IL), Ladder Diagram (LD), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Structured Text (ST). In addition to these languages a sixth, called Flow Chart (FC) is included. This sixth language is graphics based and is used to describe sequential operations in an application. The choice of which IEC 61131-3 language is used for development is based on the nature of the application and user preference. Multitasking C and C++ For customized communication protocols or highly complex algorithms, nothing provides greater flexibility than the optional TelePACE C/C++ Compiler. This optional programming environment is used for applications requiring the highest level of programming versatility such as custom protocols, complex calculations, data logging and more. Much like the TelePACE environment, compiled programs can be loaded into a SCADAPack controller over the communication network and can run concurrently with either TelePACE Ladder Logic or IEC 61131-3 programs. Communication Protocols All of Control Microsystems’ SCADAPack and Flow and Pressure Measurement Products are offered with the industry-standard Modbus serial protocol for simple integration with SCADA software, MMIs, DCS systems and a wide range of intelligent instrumentation. Alternatively, most products are also available with DNP3 as an option, offering enhanced communications and interoperability. For those applications that require communication over a LAN or WAN most of the Control Microsystems products can be used with an optional integrated or stand-alone Ethernet module that offers a range of Ethernet protocols. For those unique applications where custom communications protocols are required, Control Microsystems offers powerful C/C++ tools for custom programming. To see which options are available for each product, visit the individual product pages on this web site. Modbus Considered the industry standard, the Modbus protocol is a messaging structure used to establish master-slave/client-server communications between intelligent devices in a network. Control Microsystems products support this protocol and its two serial transmission modes, ASCIII and RTU. Using any of the Control Microsystems configuration environments the user simply selects the desired Modbus mode and the serial port parameters that will be used for communication. DNP3 The DNP3 protocol is also a standards-based, open protocol, in this case managed by an international user group. The protocol has a rich set of functions and was designed to work well in a wide area network. The protocol uses an object-based application layer and supports multiple operating modes including: poll-response, polled report-by-exception, unsolicited response and peer-to-peer. DNP3 offers time synchronized and time-stamped events and has the ability to provide confirmation on both the data link and application layers. Ethernet All of Control Microsystems’ SCADAPack and Flow and Pressure Measurement Products can communicate over an Ethernet LAN/WAN through the use of either an integrated or stand-alone Ethernet module. The modules, which provide an interface between serial and Ethernet networks, convert Modbus RTU or ASCII protocols to Modbus TCP, Modbus TCP in RTU, Modbus UDP or Modbus UDP in RTU. The network protocols available through the Control Microsystems Ethernet module include IP, ARP, TCP, TFTP, UDP and ICMP.
