Why Volumetric Separation?
Volumetric separation is based on capturing and detaining stormwater in order to separate out solids and improve water quality. Systems are designed to capture and hold the majority of the site’s runoff volume, removing pollutants through gravitational forces. By treating this volume, an engineer can be sure that the majority of the pollutants will be captured in their entirety - even at maximum runoff rates from a site.
The other important benefit of the volume-based design is the inherent flow attenuation that it provides. By capturing, holding, and slowly releasing the peak runoff, volumetric separation minimizes downstream erosion and stream degradation.
Volumetric Separation:
- Provides high level of stormwater treatment by removing extremely small particles.
- Captures and retains majority of runoff from a site.
- Separates pollutants prior to discharging runoff.
- Provides stormwater runoff detention and treatment in one unit on smaller sites.
