Features of Water Softening and Conditioning Equipment: Carbon Cartridge Pre-Filters, Membrane Life, Recirculation Pump, Membrane Cleaning, Membrane Pretreatments, Repressurization Pump, Holding Tank and Clean In Place

Q. What is the usual length of membrane life in Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems and what is the replacement cost?

A. Membrane life in Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems is between 3 and 5 years. Membranes currently cost about $300 and the price has been dropping. The house owner should be able to replace the membrane in about one hour.

Q. What is the life expectancy of the recirculation pump in the commercial reverse osmosis systems from Brean?

A. The warranty on the recirculation pump in our commercial reverse osmosis systems is for two years and it should last considerably longer than that.

Q. Is the recirculation pump of the whole house reverse osmosis patented?

A. Yes, the recirculation pump, a key feature of our whole house reverse osmosis and membrane separation technology, is patented in both the US and Canada.

Q. What are the maintenance requirements? Are Carbon Cartridge Pre-Filters, Membrane Cleaning and Clean In Place required?

A. A quarterly (once every 3 months) membrane cleaning is recommended for Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems. This is done with a citric acid solution utilizing the whole house reverse osmosis system`s Clean In Place (CIP) feature. Cost is about $5.00 per cleaning and it takes about 15-20 minutes. Directions for the cleaning process are on the side of the machine and are simple and self explanatory. In addition, the 5 micron and carbon cartridge pre-filters in these commercial reverse osmosis systems should be changed quarterly. Replacements are available at local dealers and hardware stores for less than $10.00 each.

Q. Are holding tanks required and if so, what size?

A. Yes, holding tanks are required for Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems.  The most common size used is a 165 gallon vertical tank that is 28`` inches in diameter.

Q. What options are available for the repressurization pump?

A. Brean can supply holding tanks and the repressurization pump with (each of) our commercial reverses osmosis systems or dealers/customers can do this themselves. Brean offers several models of pumps and tanks.

Q. Is any membrane pretreatment necessary?

A. In many of our whole house reverse osmosis applications, no membrane pretreatment is necessary. However, a water analysis must first be done so that a Brean professional can determine if membrane pretreatment is needed.

Q. How long does it take to install Brean`s water softening and conditioning equipment?

A. Installation time for any of Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems is 2-3 hours. The time is about the same as installing traditional water softening and conditioning equipment.

Q. What are the electrical requirements and what fittings are required for installation?

A. For the Brean 1500 WHS model, 120V with two standard plug-ins. A 20 amp breaker on a dedicated circuit is recommended. For models of commercial reverse osmosis systems larger that the 1500 WHS, 220V is required.

Q. What is the footprint of Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems?

A. Footprint of each of the Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems is 28``W x 26``L x 60``H. Footprint of the holding tanks and repressurization pump and system in the whole house reverse osmosis systems is 28`` diameter circle.

Q. Will chlorine affect the membrane? Will carbon cartridge pre-filters help?

A. The membrane in our commercial reverse osmosis systems must not see extended periods of chlorine exposure. Carbon cartridge pre-filters can be used to remove normal city chlorine in our whole house reverse osmosis systems.

Q. Do Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems remove iron?

A. Yes, Brean Whole House Water Purification Systems remove most types of iron. The water analysis will confirm this determination.
