Air Sample Analysis is the monitoring of pollutants in the ambient environment. It can be undertaken by continuous automated analysers, or by means of passive samplers. The passive sampler is the simplest, most reliable and cost effective system for monitoring several pollutants over long sampling periods. The passive sampler does not require electric power or a sample pump. A collection media adsorbs gas molecules over long periods, typically 3 months in urban areas. Following exposure, the sampler is returned to the laboratory for analysis. Passive samplers are simple to deploy and operate, and are extremely effective for a range of major pollutants. Airborne pollutants that can be monitored using this technique include nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, ozone, ammonia, benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene. |
