Successful I/I Removal
Business decisions involving I/I removal projects are critical and can impact project costs significantly. I/I removal is complex and involves risks that must be well managed to influence successful I/I removal and improve system performance. Field surveying for defects, engineering design, construction and rehabilitation can result in unnecessary work and needless capital expense if I/I removal opportunities are not accurately identified.
ADS specializes in directing customers to I/I removal opportunities that lower project costs. We offer the industry`s most comprehensive programs for determining flow performance during wet weather using flow monitors with accuracies verified by ETV. Our flow monitoring service is also marked by another market-leading index: 96% data uptime. These temporary flow monitoring projects provide detailed I/I assessment intelligence that targets rehab and enables customers to leverage rate-payer dollars for maximum I/I removal.

ADS Rain Insurance
ADS Monitors 84% of the world`s most successful I/I projects. Now, with Rain Insurance you can be assured that your wet weather study will collect the necessary amount of rain data to draw valid conclusions.
Defining the length of time in which the required number of storms will take place is a gamble, with penalties for guessing wrong in either direction. Planning for too many days means the project will cost more than is necessary. Planning for too few days means that either additional funds will be required to extend the study or, even worse, that important decisions will be based on data that is inadequate to support them.
With By-the-Storm ADS Rain Insurance, ADS shares your risk. Rather than price flow data on the length of time that monitors are installed, ADS Rain Insurance provides a fixed price to collect data from a specified number of storms that meet specified criteria for rainfall quantity.
Data Quality
The essential requirement of any measurement system is that it produces data that reasonably characterizes reality. The more accurate the data is, the more useful it is for decision making. To ensure that the benefit derived from using measurement data is great enough to warrant the cost of obtaining it; attention must be focused on the quality of the data.1.
The quality focus at ADS begins by installing a very accurate and reliable monitor. ADS supplies the only two flow monitors verified under the EPA Environmental Technology Verification program. Reliability is also important, and ADS monitor networks average well above 95% uptime over hundreds of thousands of monitor days each year.
Data quality is also affected by the standard of care used to operate and maintain a flow monitor network. All of the ADS flow monitor processes from product design to field troubleshooting receive concentrated management programs including:
- ISO9001:2000 approved Quality Management Systems
- A document library containing over 250 individual work instructions
- Bi-annual training certifications of all field personnel
- Annual quality audits by SIRA Certification Services
The final phase of quality control at ADS is performed by trained data analysts who follow three vital steps to reduce bias and variance in the final data:
- All data is edited for outliers
- All data is reconciled to independent measures of depth and velocity
- All data is reconciled to upstream and downstream flow patterns
Finally, every single site is reviewed by a Senior Data Analyst before it is delivered to a customer. Our Senior Data Analysts average over 14 years of experience in reviewing data - more time than most of our competitors have been in business.
Sewer System Evaluation Survey Services
To supplement our flow monitoring and information programs, ADS offers Sewer System Evaluation Survey (SSES) services. We have the resources and personnel to effectively manage the inventory, condition and performance analysis required for successful SSES projects.
Throughout our history, ADS has managed hundreds of SSES programs through a unique, systematic approach utilizing quality-controlled tasks including:
- Flow monitoring
- Dye flooding
- Manhole inspections
- Smoke testing
- CCTV
- Flow isolations
The focus of our methodology is to perform targeted SSES work so that our clients spend less money on expensive rehabilitation and construction efforts while maximizing removal of I/I.
