Now, with Rain Insurance you can be assured that your wet weather study will collect the necessary amount of rain data to draw valid conclusions. Defining the length of time in which the required number of storms will take place is a gamble, with penalties for guessing wrong in either direction. Planning for too many days means the project will cost more than is necessary. Planning for too few days means that either additional funds will be required to extend the study or, even worse, that important decisions will be based on data that is inadequate to support them. With By-the-Storm ADS Rain Insurance, ADS shares your risk. Rather than price flow data on the length of time that monitors are installed, ADS Rain Insurance provides a fixed price to collect data from a specified number of storms that meet specified criteria for rainfall quantity. Data Quality The essential requirement of any measurement system is that it produces data that reasonably characterizes reality. The more accurate the data is, the more useful it is for decision making. To ensure that the benefit derived from using measurement data is great enough to warrant the cost of obtaining it; attention must be focused on the quality of the data.1. The quality focus at ADS begins by installing a very accurate and reliable monitor. ADS supplies the only two flow monitors verified under the EPA Environmental Technology Verification program. Reliability is also important, and ADS monitor networks average well above 95% uptime over hundreds of thousands of monitor days each year. Water Services
Consumption Analysis ADS Environmental Services can provide a detailed consumption analysis of the metered use of customers. This can determine the impact on water use and revenue of the current meter change-out program for 10-1nch, 8- inch, and 6-inch meters. This facilitates the selecting of 3- inch and 4-inch meters for testing and replacement. This service also could efficiently select 2-inch meters for the planned testing program. The analysis also could identify the potential for reducing unaccounted-for water due to oversized meters, by considering the impact fees generated by demand charges. Meter replacement and payback periods can be determined for each meter size, based on actual projected usage, meter cost, water rates and meter reading method. Strategies to minimize water loss are essential for cost control and proper management of limited water resources. ADS can provide skilled specialists to perform leak detection, leak quantification, and other services required for a complete audit of water loss. The cost of the program is often recovered through reduced water loss and increased revenues. Master Planning A master plan includes a prioritized list of proposed improvements and a master plan map. Proposed improvements are based on modeling results. ADS Pipeline Services' experienced engineers use the calibrated model to simulate critical future conditions. When the model predicts unsatisfactory performance with the existing system, improvements are designed on a trial basis. The existing system is used to full advantage in all simulations. Accurate data from field measurements ensures that the model correctly simulates existing pipes and pumps. Maximizing use of the existing system minimizes the cost of improvements. Storage requirements are evaluated and various storage alternatives are investigated, including both elevated and ground storage. Modeling engineers check tank performance for future conditions. Redundancy and reliability are considered in the design of proposed improvements, as well as operational flexibility. When deficiencies are identified, alternative methods of solving problems will be tried and compared. Economical solutions are identified, with consideration given to innovative solutions for the entire service area at build-out. The experience of ADS Pipeline engineers produces practical solutions that work in the real world. Proposed improvements will enable the system to meet design criteria for fire protection, service pressure, velocities, and pump and tank performance. The strategic plan prioritizes the improvements and includes cost estimates for each item. Operation and maintenance costs are included. Measurements Flow Measurements - ADS Environmental Services utilizes specialized equipment to measure pressured flow in water distribution systems. Flow measurements can be used to calculate flow capacity in water distribution systems, accurately measuring actual flow velocities and velocity profiles. District Measurements - The distribution system is divided into districts to measure hourly rates of flow and 24-hour consumption patterns. By comparing the minimum rate of flow at night in a given area with its total consumption, a leakage potential for that area can be accessed. District measurements can be used to determine diurnal curves for use in a computer model. Demand curves provide critical data for extended period simulations. Hydraulic Grade Line Measurements - The purpose of the measurements is to determine hydraulic grade lines under various flow conditions, to determine how the water circulates through the trunk mains and to discover any other conditions pertinent to carrying capacity. This information is used to calibrate the model, to ensure that there are no closed or partially closed valves, and to develop reinforcements that fully utilize the existing system. The test consists of simultaneously recording system pressures and flows at a number of strategic locations. Modeling Hydraulic Modeling - ADS Environmental Services uses hydraulic models to analyze water distribution systems. Our engineers use a variety of commercially available software. Our engineers are also experienced with thoroughly documenting, installing and integrating the model on our clients' computer systems and training staff in its use. ADS engineers also have experience in modeling water quality parameters such as travel time and chlorine decay. Models can be used to develop operational changes or flushing programs to improve water quality. Proposed improvements can be evaluated to determine their impact on water quality. We have worked on over 500 network computer models in our history and within the past five years ADS Pipeline has conducted hydraulic modeling studies for over 30 communities. Water Quality Modeling - Calibrated models are used to predict the concentration of a substance as it moves through the system and decays over time. The concentration at a node can be traced over time and graphically compared to measurements. Leak Detection ADS distribution system experts come from a long history of over 100 years in the leak detection business. Our leak detection/location surveys are conducted using sonic detection equipment. We survey the total length of water main and monitor the system by listening directly on all hydrants and on numerous valves and services with highly sensitive sound intensifying instruments. ADS utilizes the latest technology in electronic correlation equipment and our engineers are trained experts in their use. In areas showing indications of leakage, a thorough investigation is conducted of the mains, hydrants, valves, and services with electronic leak correlation equipment. To pinpoint the leaks for repair, every attempt to further confirm the leak location will be made by using a ground microphone. Leak locations are marked with highly visible paint. ADS crews will record all defective system components such as valves, hydrants and curb stops, as well as any map errors that are noted in the course of carrying out other field activities. ADS also offers automated leak detection technology. This includes audible leak detection hardware coupled with a data logger and a radio transmitter. Units are installed at multiple pipe locationswithin the water supply system and continually monitor for sounds characteristic of pipe leakage. When a unit detects a noise indicative of leakage, the built-in radio transmitter sends a signal to an above ground receiver. ADS’ survey team canvasses the survey area with the receiver to identify locations in which to return with a leak noise correlator for pinpointing or discounting potential leakage locations. This automated technology can significantly reduce the amount of time required to conduct the primary survey. Click Here for additional information on Large Diameter Leak Detection services.

Line Stopping
Line Stopping Hydra-Stopping, also known as line stopping, is a way to stop flow within a pipe. Line stopping is similar to line tapping, with the addition of flow stopping. Once the hole is cut in the line, the cutter is retracted, removed and replaced with an expansion-type stopping device utilizing a valve, fitting and sealed machine. The stopping device is then inserted through the same hole into the pipe and expanded, effectively stopping the flow of contents at that point. By cutting a hole in the pipe and inserting a sealing device within the pipe, flow can be stopped. When two Hydra-Stops are done in conjunction, the length of pipe between them is isolated. Line stopping is performed on all types of piping materials for a variety of process and plant piping and materials such as steam, gas, water, oil, alcohol, waste line, coke gas, etc. Pipeline Services offers turn-key line stopping and line tapping services for municipal and industrial applications. Pipe Tapping Line tapping is establishing a connection to an existing line or pipe. The most common form of line tapping is attaching a line with a T at a 90-degree angle. The first step in line tapping is installing a fitting onto the line. The fitting is installed, checked for fit, and a valve is attached to the fitting. Next, Pipeline Services' lightweight tapping machine is fitted to the valve. The tapping machine cuts the coupon (the circular piece of the pipe that has been removed by the cutter) from the line. The cutting head and tapping machine are retraced from the fitting, and the valve is closed. The service has been "connected," and fluid will flow through the connection made with the fitting. The cutting head and tapping machine are removed from the valve and the new pipe is connected to the valve. The valve is opened and service is connected to the new section of pipe. Pipeline Services offers turn-key pipe tapping services as well as a complete line of pipe tapping equipment from the Company's Hydra-Stop product line. Insta-Valve Plus The Insta-Valve Plus is a highly reliable, easily inserted, trouble-free valve replacement system. Installation is as easy as 1,2,3. Just install the fitting, make the tap, then install the valve. It really is that simple. Hydra-Stop's Insta-Valve Plus eliminates many of the problems commonly associated with valve insertion and valve replacement. Complicated planning and coordination can be eliminated. Once installed, Insta-Valve Plus operates with a standard valve key. This revolutionary valving system works with your existing Hydra-Stop equipment or as a stand-alone system. Insta-Valve Plus can now be easily inserted practically anywhere, giving professionals the control they have long wanted over complicated distribution systems. Insta-Valve Plus requires only one cut, no reaming, and causes no excessive pipe strength loss. It truly is "the easy-to-install, easy-to-use" insertable valve.
