Technology Updates
New Chlorine Tolerant Desalination Membrane
The chlorine tolerant membrane will simplify the water desalination process, increasing access to fresh water and possibly reducing greenhouse gases.
GF Piping Systems Introduces Re-Designed Fuseal Mechanical Joint
Excellent chemical and physical properties make the Fuseal piping system the best choice for handling corrosive waste streams.
Spray Head Valves Available from Magnum Australia
The spray head valves can be used as an alternative for auxiliary, knife, butterfly, and ball valves for dispersing water and other fluid in a controlled spray patterns.
Automatic Screen/Filter for Small Systems
The FINESSE is the solution for continuous screening problems in small packaged wastewater treatment plant applications. It is also great for pre-septic tank applications.
Product Forecasts
Global Market for Membrane Bioreactors worth $488 Million By 2013
Domestic wastewater treatment was the earliest application of MBRs and is still the largest application, accounting for 44%.
World Market for Industrial Valves to Reach $56 Billion (USD) in 2012
Compared to 2007 estimates of $45B, this figure represents worldwide growth just short of 25 percent over the next five years.

Established on June 3rd 2008, at Alden Labs, this association is a landmark event for the water quality industry, and environmental issues that affect our most precious resource: water.
Editorial

The membrane bioreactor (MBR) is the combination of a membrane process like microfiltration or ultrafiltration with a suspended growth bioreactor.

According to a new technical market research report, Membrane Bioreactors: Global Markets (MST047B) from BCC Research, the global market for membrane bioreactor technology, is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.5%, increasing in value from $296.0 million in 2008 to $488.0 million by 2013. The global market for membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology for wastewater treatment has grown steadily since 1990, when it was worth only $1 million.

Update on Use of Mine Pool Water for Power Generation
Author     :  J. A. Veil, M. G. Puder
Company :  Argonne National Laboratory
Electricity generation, at steam electric plants requires a cooling system to condense the steam. With the exception of a few plants using air cooled condensers, most U.S. steam electric power plants use water for cooling. Water usage occurs through once-through cooling or as make-up water in a closed-cycle system (generally involving one or more cooling towers).
