Our newsletter sponsor for this week is Tonka Equipment Company who designs and manufactures water treatment systems.
Wastewater contains high levels of ammonia that is converted into nitrate through bacterial degradation.
Wastewater treatment plants add methanol to accelerate the biodegradation of excess nitrogen. Although effective, methanol emits flammable vapors that can result in explosions if the risks are not adequately understood, and safety awareness and precautions are not clearly communicated and carefully observed.
The Water Environment Federation, in cooperation with the Methanol Institute, will host Methanol Safety: Understanding and Managing Risks, a new webcast about methanol safety at wastewater treatment facilities, on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern.

The cost of water and wastewater service in the United States has drawn increased attention in recent years. One concern in public discussions about the cost of water and wastewater service, however, is the lack of comprehensive data about the amount that households actually spend for water and wastewater service. |
