Editorial

Membrane filtration is now replacing other fine solids separation devices. Membranes and filters can selectively allow or exclude the passage of certain ions, suspended solids, and bacteria. They play an important role in the separation of salts during the natural processes of dialysis and osmosis.

BWA, a world leader in the development of high performance specialty chemical solutions for desalination processes, has expanded the Flocon product offering to launch Flocon Membrane Solutions.

Japanese resin maker Kuraray Co. has set up a joint venture with Nomura Micro Science Co. to supply filtration membranes and water treatment systems. They will provide water purification, drainage and water recycling systems.

Multicriteria Decision-Making for Efficient Water and Land Resources Allocation in Irrigated Agriculture
Author     :  Dionysis Latinopoulos
Company :  Aristotle University
The irrational use of water in agriculture is often responsible for several problems concerning the depletion and/or the pollution of water resources. In these cases, specific policy measures should be taken to protect water resources from harmful agricultural activities, mitigating at the same time their potential impact on farmers` welfare. To this end, a multicriteria decision-making model is formulated that aims at allocating efficient water and land resources in rural areas of Greece, by optimizing a set of important socio-economic and environmental objectives.
