With a mission to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources, the United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation has a massive job on its hands. New technology and research are constantly changing the possibilities for water and desalination. The Bureau has adopted a strategy for supporting high risk research on major innovations, and developing a better understanding of environmental issues associated with ocean and inland desalination.

Recent government regulations aimed at increasing the reuse or recycling of wastewater suggests that perceptions are beginning to change. Ironically, if these initiatives are embraced by industry and individual consumers, the traditional assumption that water is an endless resource may actually have a ring of truth to it. |
