William Blanford is a professional geologist and an Assistant Professor of Hydrogeology with the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His teaching and research primarily focus on the area of groundwater contaminant transport in remediation. Specifically, Dr. Blanford and his research group evaluate factors that govern the circulation of water and the transport, fate, and remediation of waterborne microbial pathogens, organic chemicals, and metals in subsurface and surface environments. In this pursuit, his work integrates elements of hydrology, geology, microbiology, chemistry, environmental engineering, and public policy.
Dr. Blanford has for over fifteen years collaborated with academic, governmental, and private sector scientists, engineers, and regulators on diverse field, lab, and modelling research projects. These have been funded by local, state, and federal agencies as well as the private sector companies. Finally, Dr. Blanford is currently advising the state of Louisiana on its efforts to develop laws and regulations to preserve and protect their groundwater resources.
