Synopsis

Historically, in North America, cocurrent designed demineralizer installations have proved to be one of the most reliable methods for producing large quantities of demineralized water on a continuous basis.

Various terms such as ; operational simplicity, trouble free operation, foolproof system performance, and low capital investment have been associated with, or are synonymous in the descriptive process relating to cocurrently designed demineralizer systems.

This “safe” approach was satisfactory for the majority of U.S. companies and fit in nicely with the current (engineering houses ) thinking at the time. However, it did not address the economic and environmental issues which would eventually have a direct affect on the water treatment industry.

As the global market became a reality and environmental restrictions were being more strictly enforced, to remain competitive, companies located in U.S. and all of North America, no longer had the luxury of being insensitive or apathetic toward operating costs and environmental issues associated with any type of process or manufacturing operation.

In the U.S., new technologies ( new to the U.S. ) were being considered for use in the demineralized water treatment industry. Operational efficiency, reduced waste, budget constraints and higher levels of product quality being the prime criterion for their consideration.
