Malcolm Farley is a chartered engineer (CEng) registered with the UK Engineering Council and a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (FCIWEM). He has 34 years experience of working with water supply and distribution networks worldwide. He worked for the UK Water Research Centre (WRc) for 25 years, specialising for the last 13 years in water loss management and leakage control.
Since leaving WRc in 1994 to become an independent consultant, he has developed expertise in conducting water audits and developing strategies for improving operation and maintenance practices and water loss management in many countries. Many of these contracts have been for NGOs such as The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Bank. A key feature of Mr Farley`s work is technology transfer, reflected in the many needs assessment surveys and training workshops he has organised and conducted.
Mr Farley is a member of the International Water Association (IWA) Water Loss Task Force, a group committed to promoting international best practice and standards for water loss management in water distribution networks. He was recently commissioned by IWA Publishing to write a best practice manual on water loss management. He has also written a leakage management training manual for the World Health Organisation, and has updated the AWWA M36 Manual on Leakage and Water Audits.
He is Principal Consultant of a newly formed consultancy - Aqua2 - specialising in water loss management, demand management, Operation & Maintenance and training projects worldwide.
