ISTT, the international organisation for trenchless technology, was formed in the United Kingdom in September 1986. The purpose of the ISTT is to promote the benefits of trenchless technologies, and to facilitate their development and implementation, throughout the world. To achieve these aims the ISTT encourages the formation of national and regional societies, which must have identical aims, which can then affiliate to the ISTT. Members of Affiliated Societies automatically become members of ISTT. The Affiliated Societies serve those concerned with the provision of all underground services including, gas, water, sewerage, telecommunications, electrical power and civil engineering structures in their country or region. To help its Members, and to encourage the wider use of trenchless technologies, the ISTT provides the following: An official monthly magazine which features articles on new developments and applications, news items and information on technical, financial, and legal aspects of trenchless technology worldwide.A website with a range of membership services including a technical database.Other publications such as the Trenchless Technology Guidelines and the Trenchless Technology Database issued as a multimedia CD-ROM.An official Research Journal (A subscription service)An annual No-Dig Award for the most notable advances or achievements in the field of trenchless technology. The award attracts a large number of high-quality entries worldwide.ISTT also organizes a major international conference and exhibition each year in partnership with an Affiliated Society. The ISTT also sponsors events in countries or regions where there is no Affiliated Society and trenchless technology needs to be promoted. The ISTT cooperates with other non-government organizations in dealing with the problems of urban living and the environment. Trenchless technologies have been accepted as Environmentally Sound Technologies (ESTs) by the United Nations Environment Programme. (UNEP-DTIE-IETC) There are at present 3,300 ISTT members worldwide, and in countries with sufficient numbers, there are Affiliated societies in 26 countries/regions. The ISTT welcomes members of the public to join the community of trenchless enthusiasts and practitioners. A joining application form can be found on the ISTT website www.istt.com or by contacting the address above by telephone or fax. |
