Stream Sampling System for Remote Water Samples, Water Quality Solutions, Sewer Overflow Prevention System, Fluid Sampling System, Drainage and Flood Control

Environmental Engineering

How would you design a stream sampling system that can take remote water samples on-demand? The problem: when it rains, pollutants from golf courses, residential, and surrounding areas are released into streams that also pollute our oceans. But at what points along a stream are the pollutants entering?  Previously, water sampling consisted of waiting for a rain event, then racing to a nearby stream to collect water samples by hand.

Oceanit`s Environmental Engineering team joined forces with Oceanit`s Information Technology team to combine off-the-shelf pager technology and custom fabricated water capture devices into a single integrated system.

The result is multiple points along a stream can be remotely sampled with just a phone call.

Oceanit offers a growing list of environmental engineering services for the Water Industry.

PRODUCTS: Fluid Level Alarm Gauge (FLAG)

Prevent it. FLAG or Fluid Level Alarm Gauge is a low-cost, wireless, sewer overflow prevention system developed by Oceanit. The FLAG system consists of wireless battery-powered field sensors, and a web-based alert and reporting components.

Each FLAG sensor is powered by rechargeable batteries, utilizes Verizon`s national cellular network, and is built from commercial off-the-shelf components for fast easy setup and maintenance.

Designed and built for harsh sewer environments, a network of FLAG sensors can detect impending sewer overflow conditions and transmit real-time information via the Verizon cellular network to the FLAG centralized system. The impending sewer overflow is immediately logged and mapped via a secure customer website. An automated series of phone calls and email alerts are then sent to field service crews and managers. To confirm that an alert was received, the keypad on a phone must be pressed or a reply email must be sent. Acknowledgements are logged for future reference.

Coastal & Ocean Engineering

How would you design a remote monitoring system that can track sewer outfalls in the ocean, and illegal sewer dumpings by cruise ships?  The problem: Existing water monitoring practices include waiting for sewage to wash ashore onto beaches.

Oceanit`s Coastal Engineering team joined forces with Oceanit`s Science & Technology team to combine satellite imagery, Russian image processing technology, and water sampling monitors into a single integrated system.

The result is sewer outfall surveillance from the sky, which can provide advance warning for local authorities who can take steps to protect public health and the environment.

Product: On-Demand Fluid Sampling & Reporting

Sample it. Using digital paging technology, Oceanit has developed a fluid sampling system that takes samples on-demand by simply placing a phone call.

Application: Stream sampling for TMDL studies. When it begins to rain in a target area, phone calls are made to strategically placed units along a stream to take water samples. Each sample is then collected from the stream and taken to a lab for analysis.

Civil Engineering

Wireless SCADA: How would you design a desalination facility that operates effectively with half the number of people?  The problem: wireless SCADA would be perfect, but it didn`t exist at the time.

Oceanit`s Civil Engineering team joined forces with Oceanit`s Information Technology team to design, integrate, and deploy a wireless SCADA system that utilizes wireless PDAs, a web-based monitoring interface, and an existing SCADA system into a single integrated system for the Honolulu Board of Water Supply`s desalination pilot plan.

The result is a future 20 acre desalination facility that can be wirelessly controlled and monitored from the palm of your hand.
