American Water, the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced recently that its Military Services Group has been awarded a contract for ownership, operation and maintenance of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system at Fort Hood Army Installation, Texas. According to the agreement, the award of this contract is estimated at approximately $329M over a 50-year period and is also subject to price re-determination.

"We are extremely pleased to be awarded this contract and are committed to delivering excellent service that Fort Hood can depend upon," said Don Correll, president and CEO of American Water. "We have partnered with the federal government to meet the Army's goal to find a viable solution for utility management that lets it focus on its core mission to protect and defend our country."

American Water's Military Services Group, which is reported as part of American Water's Contract Operations Group, currently operates and maintains the water and/or wastewater networks at Fort A.P. Hill, Va., Fort Bragg, N.C., Fort Sill, Okla., Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and Fort Rucker, Ala.

"We are honored and proud to be selected by the Army to provide our soldiers high quality water and wastewater services," said Jimmy Sheridan, vice president of the Military Services Group. "We look forward to partnering with Fort Hood and serving its residents for the next five decades, and beyond."

Fort Hood, serving a population of 218,000, is the only post in the U.S. capable of stationing and training two Armored Divisions. It is "The Army's Premier Installation to train and deploy heavy forces." In addition to the 1st Cavalry Division and 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood is also residence for Headquarters Command III Corps, 3d Signal Brigade, 3d Air Support Operations Group, 13th Support Command (Expeditionary), 13th Finance Group, 21st CAV Brigade (Air Combat), 89th Military Police Brigade, 504th BfSB, the Dental Activity (DENTAC), the Medical Support Activity (MEDDAC), U.S. Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC), and various other units and tenant organizations.

The Military Services Group of American Water provides water and wastewater services to military installations across the country as part of the federal government's Utility Privatization Program.
