Global Water Engineering (GWE) has further strengthened its footprint in the brewery sector with the awarding of a contract for one of the Heineken breweries in Russia.

This new contract is the 8th brewery contract that has been awarded to GWE in the last year.

These 8 new brewery references add up more than 130,000 kg COD/day of organic load. It brings the total effluent capacity of GWE’s wastewater solutions in the brewery sector to almost 1 million kg COD/day, spread over more than 80 customers.

The wastewater of all these breweries together has the capacity to generate 300,000Nm3 biogas per day, containing enough methane gas (CH4) to replace the equivalent of 265,000 liters of fuel oil per day. At fuel oil prices of 0.8 Euro per liter (Fuel Oil price in Belgium, September 2008) that means a yearly total saving for all our brewery customers combined of nearly 70 Million Euro.

Besides the financial advantages, there’s of course also the environmental benefit. By replacing fossil fuel consumption with renewable biogas extracted from the brewery’s waste stream, the amount of CO₂ emitted into the atmosphere is significantly reduced.
