Hydrocarbon Removal Industrial Waste Water Filter Cartridge

MYCELX manufactures the most technically advanced and efficient products for immobilizing oil available anywhere. All products are infused with patented MYCELX technology and are designed for specific oil remediation tasks. Every cleanup task from sheen to tarballs can be quickly and efficiently addressed using MYCELX products. The use of these products will maximize response effectiveness, while drastically reducing material usage, water drag-out, waste generation and ultimately, environmental damage.

MYCELX Oil Spill Remediation

MYCELX does not sell the typical melt blown polypropylene materials that other companies use, which are slow, ineffective, and over the long term, expensive. After years of research MYCELX Technologies has developed and patented technology which instantly renders oils hydrophobic and viscoelastic. Oil will instantly bond to any substrate treated with MYCELX technology, thereby preventing sinking, emulsification, weathering, sheen and tarball formation. The patented processing technology enables the application of MYCELX to a variety of natural or synthetic materials. We are therefore able to make application specific substrate selections in order to respond to the specific requirements of a range of remediation scenarios. MYCELX Technologies has addressed the fact that what is required of a sorbent material in a sheen, where it is exposed to primarily water, is different than what is required of a sorbent when exposed primarily to oil. Additionally, requirements for a surface remediation technology vary by type of oil; as heavier oils have much higher surface tensions, and lower buoyancy, which reduces the effectiveness of materials that rely upon capillary action. MYCELX has addressed these issues and developed a versatile product line to meet the specific needs of oil remediation customers.

Versimat™ is used for light to medium oils. The large surface-contact area distinguishes it from other standard sweep or boom products. The contact area, covering 45.8 square feet and weighing only 2.8 pounds, offers the largest square footage per pound of any product available and has an oil capacity of up to120 lbs.

Terraguard™ protects bird estuaries, environmentally sensitive wetlands and shorelines. Extending from above the oil-water interface to sand level, it absorbs bulk amounts of oil both above and below the water surface. Engineered for rapid deployment, it protects the shore from tar balls, emulsification products and surface sheen. It also is used for emergency spill response as an instantly deployable underflow weir.

Viscochips™ can be applied directly to thicken light oils and enhance the effectiveness of skimmers. These specially treated wood fibers function as rheology modifiers, causing oil to become more cohesive. The wood fibers can also solidify heavy oils into a solid, buoyant mass.

Sheen Devil™ is a super buoyant oil-and-sheen boom designed specifically for the removal of sheen from water. It has five times the surface area of conventional booms, with only one-tenth the weight. Its high buoyancy and inability to absorb water it maximum exposure to surface films and eliminate water drag-out, reducing waste disposal costs.

Versipad™ is used for bulk sorption of light to medium oils. It prevents weathering and separation on contact and is able to remove up to one-half pound of oil on surface areas up to 18 square feet.
Finally, the Smartpad™ can be used for oil remediation in water or on land. Its design protects surfaces beneath the pad by absorbing oil without letting it pass through. Each is capable of removing over two pounds of oil and prevents weathering and separation on contact.

MYCELX Marine Applications

MYCELX marine products remove hydrocarbons, ranging from oil to gasoline sheen, out of water in a single pass. MYCELX instantly and permanently bonds hydrocarbon compounds to its surface, keeping them from separating, emulsifying and releasing. The technology allows the cartridges to permanently remove the pollutants in a single pass with less than 1 psi of pressure drop (even when fully saturated). Saturated MYCELX cartridges and can be safely incinerated and even used to generate energy due to their high BTU content.

MYCELX marine products include the BilgeKleen for bilge water, the Watermaker Protection System for RO membrane protection, the Boater Emergency Spill Kit, the FuelKleen Splash Absorbing Fueling Collars and the VentKleen Overflow Protection Device for safe fueling operations, and a host of oil spill remediation products.

Storm Water

The MYCELX Stormwater Filtration System is designed to fit in parking lot drain units and works to remove harmful pollutants found in stormwater runoff.

The system uses an easy-to-assemble gutter system in conjunction with the Stormwater Filtration System filled with MYCELX SilaKleen, a MYCELX infused expanded silicate, to catch the ``first flush`` of rainwater from parking lots. This ``first flush`` contains the highest concentration of oil and gas contamination. The result is an effluent clear of sheen, oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, transmission fluids and chlorinated solvents. The system uses MYCELX technology to instantly remove pollutants, including an entire range of organic chemicals, from water. The MYCELX Stormwater Filtration System can also be installed below grade for use in plant floors and parking lots and carries a Class B load rating.

Industry proven MYCELX products are able to remove 99-plus-percent of pollutants from water in a single pass with less than 1 psi of backpressure. Once pollutants come in contact with MYCELX, they are instantly bonded to the material and become extremely hydrophobic and viscoelastic (thickened), which permanently removes them from the water stream.

Oil Spill Remediation

MYCELX Technology

A privately held corporation and owner of 9 process and compound patents for the Mycelx group of compounds, with numerous other patents pending. Has received 2 Chemical Abstract Services Numbers (CAS) for new molecules.

Mycelx technology was originally developed to address the clean-up of off shore oil spills using manual labor remediation techniques.

Mycelx technology has been adapted to industrial, groundwater, & runoff water applications by infusing filter cartridges with MYCELX so that pumped water can be easily treated.

The Mycelx Compound

Mycelx is a patented curable polymeric surfactant technology that is infused to all Mycelx products. Mycelx is the synthesis product of a reaction between a natural drying or semi-drying oil and various methacrylate esters. Natural drying oils are well known for their ability to ``dry`` and form a protective coating or varnish. This important drying property is retained in the new Mycelx molecule. The resulting compound cross-links into practically any substrate. Mycelx retains the drying property of the natural drying oil, which makes both the infusion and the removal of pollutants permanent. Mycelx products instantly bond pollutants (whether water semi-soluble or insoluble) to their surfaces and prevent the contamination from separating, emulsifying, and releasing.

Another significant characteristic of Mycelx is its ability to not create a differential pressure while removing pollutants. A totally saturated Mycelx filter will create only about .5 psi of pressure differential to the system, ensuring that the flow of water is never stopped. This is a very rare property in filtration and it`s what truly separates Mycelx from other environmental waste-removal products on the market today. Mycelx Technologies Corporation has developed proprietary and patented processing methodology which enables us to infuse the MYCELX technology into a variety of substrate materials. This gives us the ability to address specific pollutants and applications by utilizing the optimal substrate for a particular application.

When to use MYCELX HRM™ (Hydrocarbon Removal Matrix) Cartridges

  • When lower discharge is required after an oil/water separator (or other gross removal technology) has removed the bulk of the oil/hydrocarbons a MYCELX post-polishing cartridge is used to further lower the TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon) level to BDL (below detectable limits).
  • When a pre-polishing filter is needed ahead of a membrane type filter, an activated carbon filter or an ion exchange unit to protect it from oil/hydrocarbon and organic overload, degradation, or blinding.
  • When it is necessary to lower TPH, even sheen, to BDL.
  • When there are hydrocarbons other than just free fats, oils and grease to be removed, such as: semi-soluble compounds, aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX), solvents, pesticides, chlorinated organics, colloidal metals, MTBE (in some cases), PCB`s, etc.
  • When there is not enough space to install a large piece of equipment such as an Oil/water separator, centrifuge, or multimedia filter yet the discharge must still be polished.

Where to use MYCELX Cartridges

  • Industrial effluent and process water remediation
  • Bilge and ballast water onboard ships
  • Boiler blow down and boiler or compressor condensate polishing
  • Turbine bearing cooling water
  • Oil and Gas Production (onshore and offshore) terminals
  • Tank farm, trucking terminal, oil platform, and bermed area runoff water treatment
