Brackish Water Treatment and Desalination with Reverse Osmosis is a Cost Effective Solution for Water Treatment
KMS FLUID SYSTEMS® brand of reverse osmosis and nanofiltration membranes are able to remove both salts and minerals from brackish water. With plants as large as 50 MGD, KMS is a leader in brackish water treatment.
Long lasting, highly efficient membranes minimize demineralization and desalination costs.
KMS Products Deliver High Purity Water That Meets the Highest Standards in a Broad Array of Industries
Koch Membrane Systems is a leader in dependable, economical ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO), used as an alternative to chemical and physical water treatment.
For example:
- Bottling plants use ultrafiltration for treating raw water used in production of carbonated soft drinks with reverse osmosis (RO) for the production of bottled water.
- Power plants use ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis for the production of boiler make-up water.
- Microelectronic manufacturers use ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis to make high purity water, and for polishing high purity water for point of use.
- Pharmaceutical manufacturers use ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis to make high purity water.

KMS membranes can provide a positive barrier to viruses and bacteria while removing organics and salts, enabling municipal effluent to be reused
In areas where rainfall is scarce, reuse of water from municipal wastewater treatment is becoming common and sometimes mandatory. KMS membranes and systems are used to reclaim water from municipal wastewater for use in irrigation, wetland maintenance, and for indirect potable reuse. In the city of Scottsdale, AZ, KMS has supplied membranes for a 12 MGD reverse osmosis system to desalinate and purify the city’s tertiary effluent for reinjection into the ground. The city is then able to use this return to groundwater as a water credit, allowing them to increase the amount of groundwater pumped for potable and irrigation purposes.
Bacteria and Virus Removal, Turbidity, TOC Reduction, and Demineralization
Ultrafiltration filters out suspended solids, bacteria, and viruses for first stage purification requirements. Reverse osmosis can then be applied to desalinate and remove dissolved contaminants such as salts and organics.
KMS membranes recover water from filter backwash to provide higher yield and lower waste disposal costs
The dream of designing and operating a zero discharge system is closer to becoming a reality, facilitated by backwash water recovery using KMS municipal wastewater filtration systems. The wide range of products from KMS includes a family of membranes specifically designed to increase the yield of a treatment facility by processing backwash water from either conventional filters or membrane filters. The water produced from these membranes meets the same high standards as water from any other KMS municipal wastewater filtration system.
