Biography
Dr. Rakesh Govind is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. His research has been in the areas of pollution prevention and biotreatment of gases, wastewater, soils and sediments. He has pioneered novel biotreatment systems for odors and volatile compounds, and founded two companies. PRD Tech, Inc., a company that advises, designs and installs odor and volatile compound treatment systems using biological and integration of biological methods with other treatment strategies. LCP Tech, Inc. specializes in development of environmentally friendly lubricants and cutting fluids using new chemistry that has led to the development of liquid crystal polymers (LCP). LCP fluids have been extensively tested by the U.S. EPA and U.S. Army for use as blanket fluids to eliminate emissions from electroplating and pickling tanks. Dr. Govind has published over a hundred papers on biotreatment and received Earth Day Awards for three consecutive years by Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company. Dr. Govind received his MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, and has worked at Mellon Institute as Director of ICAPS Center and at Polaroid Corporation as Senior Scientist. He has received the Junior Morrow Chair Award from University of Cincinnati and the Alfred Bodine Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
