Biography

Prof. Sixto Malato Rodrigues has a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Almería (1997), a Dipl. Chemistry (Chemical Engineering) by Facultad de Ciencias of University of Granada (1987) and a Masters in Environmental Sciences by the Instituto de Investigaciones Ecológicas (Málaga, 1994).

He has worked for over 16 years and has experience in different sectors. His professional activities started in 1987, as Junior Researcher in Chemical Engineering, Department of Univ. of Almería; in 1988 he joined the Production Department in an oil refinery (REPSOL S.A.) in Puertollano (Spain). Since 1990 he has worked at the Plataforma Solar de Almería. He participated in the growing-up of all the Solar Photochemistry activities at Plataforma Solar de Almería, at the beginning of the nineties and in all the projects linked to the Solar Detoxification of water. At present he has a permanent position as Senior Researcher of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology.

He has been involved in 11 European Union (3rd, 4th and 5th Framework Programmes), 11 National R&D Projects and 6 R&D Contracts (with Private Companies), related with the development of Solar Technologies applied to wastewater treatment. He has been involved in the design and construction of all the pilot plants for experimentation in solar detoxification of industrial waste waters existing in Europe. He is the coordinator of the Project “A Coupled Advanced Oxidation-Biological Process for Recycling of Industrial Wastewater Containing Persistent Organic Contaminants (Cadox)” sponsored by the (EU ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, Vth FP) that has begun in February 2003.

He is author of one book, co-author of 4 books and 14 chapters in different books and 61 publications in indexed international journals. Besides, he is the co-author of 17 articles in technical journals and 115 contributions to 60 different International Congress and Symposiums. He has attended 29 Workshops and Conferences related with Water Treatment and participated as a teacher in 12 courses related with Advanced Wastewater Treatment. He has also directed 4 PhD Thesis. He is regularly the reviewer, for a dozen of the best scientific journals in his field of activity.
