ORM Series of Manual Filters and the ORL Series of Automatic Self-Cleaning Water Filters


ORM Series Manual Filters

The ORM series of manual filters offer a solution for those systems with big operating problems but small operating budgets. Orival's ORM model filters are available in 1'' to 8'' line sizes, the filters are capable of handling flows up to 1320 gpm. They are constructed of carbon steel and coated with extra durable polyester, electrostatically applied and oven cured on a zinc phosphate layer, the filters are designed with durability in mind.  The screen is available in sizes down to 200 mesh, allowing the unit to be used in a variety of applications. Rinse cycles are activated manually, by simply turning a valve.

Working of the ORM Series of Manual Filters

Dirty water enters the inlet and passes through the screen to the outlet. Unwanted particles accumulate on the outside surface of the screen.

A manual backwash cycle is activated by opening the rinse valve to drain. A portion of the water travels back through the screen, dislodging the particles. At the same time, a flow is induced across the surface of the screen, carrying the particles to drain.

The screen can also be accessed for manual cleaning by removing the cover.

ORL Series - Automatic Self-Cleaning Water Filters

The ORL series of automatic self-cleaning water filters are designed for low flow rate applications where the standard OR series filters may not be suitable. These units are available in 1/2'' to 2'' line sizes and can be equipped with 80, 150, 300 or 800 mesh screens.

The wire mesh screen is used to remove suspended solids.  Since it is a mechanical means of filtration and does not rely on centrifugal action, it is able to remove a wide variety of solids, regardless of specific gravity.  Pollen, silt, algae, scale, and more are no match for the ORL.

Conserves Water

The ORL is equipped with an automatic backwash controller (battery operated 9VDC or 110/220 VAC units available, semi-automatic units optional) which automatically activates a backwash cycle based on pressure differential or adjustable timer.  Rinse cycles are activated only when needed, eliminating water waste due to unnecessary cleaning cycles.  In addition, the filter only uses a portion of the flow for the cleaning cycle also helping to conserve water.

  • Minimum inlet pressure during rinse cycle: 22 psig

Working of the ORL Series of Water Filters

Dirty water enters the inlet and passes through the fine screen from the outside in. Filtered water travels up from the center of the fine screen and exits the filter outlet. Unwanted particles accumulate on the outer surface of the screen, creating a pressure differential.

Once the pressure drop reaches a preset level, a rinse cycle is activated by the factory supplied control system by opening the rinse valve to an atmospheric drain.

On initiation of the rinse cycle, the pressure drop in the discharge chamber causes the screen to move downward. As a result, a portion of the flow is diverted into the center of the rinse nozzle (not shown), where it is directed at the inner surface of the screen.

The high pressure flow from the inside of the screen dislodges the particles from the surface, and the flow across the surface of the screen carries the particles to the drain. The nozzle is designed to rotate, ensuring that the entire screen is cleaned each cycle. Since only a portion of the flow is used for the cleaning cycle, there is no interruption of flow to the remainder of the system.
