The IFAT - the International Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Refuse and Recycling, will open its doors for the fifteenth time on thepremises of the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in Munich. Parallel to this important and largest world's environmental trade fairs, visitors will be able to enjoy a well selected international conference programme from 5th to 9th May 2008. As in previous years, four German and European professional associations have again joined together to present the latest knowledge from the water, wastewater and waste sector to visitors: The German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) will organise the water and wastewater part of the conference together with its European umbrella organisation, the European Water Association (EWA). The waste part will be dealt with by the Association of municipal waste management and city cleaning in the VKU (VKS im VKU) together with the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA).
Water and Wastewater
For the water and wastewater part of the conference, visitors andparticipants will be offered an international symposium jointly organised by the European Water Association (EWA), the Japan Sewage Works Association (JSWA) and the Water Environment Federation (WEF) - the 3rd joint specialty conference addressing the topic "Sustainable Water Management in response to 21st century pressures".
The conference programme of DWA will address the topics flood protection, coastal protection and renewable energies amongst others. Together with national and international cooperation partners DWA will organise events with regional focus, e.g. the Middle East and Africa, besides the thematically oriented conferences.
Waste
For the subject waste, VKS and VKU are offering three interesting expert conferences. The conference on "Waste as source of energy - an opportunity for climate protection" will deal with the topic of power generation using different energy sources and their contribution to climate and environmental protection. One will look at residual waste, derived fuels, biomass as well as bio and landfill gas. Entitled "Automotive engineering as factor for clean air" another conference session is dedicated to possibilities for reduction of emissions from technical devices used in street-cleaning and waste collection. Visitors of the technical conference "Recycling of waste and supporting logistical standards" can expect topics like control of secondary raw material flows on Federal State level; mobile and stationary collection concepts for separate collection of potential recyclables as well as recommendations for integration of professional sorting and marketing of potential recyclables under municipal management. These expert conferences will take place on 5th and 8th May 2008.
