Powerful Swiss partner for all wastewater questions. We have many years of experience in using chemical products in the treatment of water and wastewater throughout Switzerland.

CU Water Processing

Our specialists deal with all problems concerning water supply systems and wastewater purification both in the public and private sectors.

CU Water processing is committed to the economical use and environmental compatibility of its products. CU Water Processing is a part of Feralco (Schweiz) AG.

"Good service can only be achieved by collaborating with the customer."
This principle is of capital importance in the way we work. It is only by understanding our customers and their needs that we can successfully develop and implement optimal solutions. With this end in view we always talk directly to you, the customer. It is only after this dialogue that we will decide together on the most appropriate course of action and the most efficient products to be used.

Biotrans

Our climatic conditions: 150 to 200 days of rain per year! This means: on average 1m3 of rainwater per m2 per year and for a maximum rainfall this can reach 50 litres per m2 per day.

The effects of rain on the sewage treatment plant involve the following risks

  • The amount of dry solid material drops
  • The character of the sludge changes
  • The activated sludge loses some of its purification capacity
  • The amount of dry solids suspended in the water causes problems

With Biotrans

  • No longer any problems with sludge discharge
  • Good sedimentation properties
  • Continuous nitrification throughout the year
  • A higher degree of purification than previously achieved

Further advantages of Biotrans

  • Biotrans® for an extremely stable processing in the sewage treatment plant
  • Biotrans® was specially developed for the biological treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater and is prepared from aluminum-based raw materials
  • Biotrans® owes its efficiency to stable floc formation in the activated sludge tank and rapid sludge sedimentation in the secondary sedimentation tank

Biotrans® has a high clarification performance thanks to stable plant processing even under high levels of hydraulic or sediment loading

Biotrans® are ideally suited for sewage treatment plants

  • Flocculation and floc structure in the activated sludge have been unsatisfactory.
  • The rate of sludge sedimentation has been inadequate.
  • The level of suspended solids (SS) in the sewage treatment plant effluent has regularly exceeded acceptable limits.
  • High influent loadings have pushed the plant to the limit of its capacity.
  • Sudden input upsurges have led to sludge in the outlet.
  • Filamentous bacteria have repeatedly caused bulking and floating sludge.
  • The dry solids in the activated sludge have not been adjustable to the optimum value for stable plant operation.
  • The extensive use of precipitants has prevented the formation of a healthy biological treatment tank.
  • Nitrification has not been maintained throughout the year.

Applications

  • Biotrans® can be used in all types of sewage treatment plants in the same way as normal precipitating agents. The best clarification performance is achieved when the sewage treatment plant has a well-functioning control system for return-sludge and excess sludge volumes as well as an efficient aeration system for the activation tank.
  • Biotrans® works within seconds and this is why dosing takes place in a wastewater flow of high turbulence to ensure rapid and complete dispersal, preferably in the inflow to the activation tank.
  • Biotrans® is added in low doses. The dose is based on the usual quantity of wastewater (dry period inflow, QWtA) and can be varied during the day to meet load changes.

Advantages

  • Biotrans® stabilizes the process of biological treatment of sewage and thereby brings savings in everyday operation as well as improving clarification performance throughout the year.
  • Thanks to correct dosing the level of residual salts in the purified water is considerably reduced. Moreover the small amount of chemical product employed in no way disrupts the growth of micro-organisms and in a short space of time there is a wide range of micro-organisms in the activated sludge.
  • Biotrans® is simple to use and if problems do occur CU Water Processing specialists are there to help.

Start-up procedures

First to determine the correct dosage information about product storage, application location and method, as well as QWTA, C, N and P levels and their limits, is required.

Second Biotrans® is added and the installation regulated so that Biotrans® starts to work. For example by regulating the levels of dry material in the activated sludge tank or controlling return and excess sludge. At the same time a microscopic examination of the micro-organisms present is carried out.

Third the system is optimized and adapted to any special requirements.

Water and Waste Water Treatment

Utopur® was specially developed from aluminium and iron compounds for the treatment of bulking and floating sludge in municipal sewage plants.

Utopur® gives excellent results thanks to a rapid elimination of filamentous bacteria in the activated sludge tank while at the same time not harming the floc forming micro-organisms.

Utopur® combats the filamentous bacteria selectively. The activated sludge in the treatment tank is fully active after treatment with Utopur® and does not need to be reconstituted.

Reprint from Water Highlights 1/2003 of an article by Rainer von Hoessle on the subject of filamentous bacteria (Microthrix spp.)-

As a general rule one can expect good results without major structural alteration to the sewage treatment plant. However appropriate precautions should be taken.

For Microthrix spp. activity, it is the temperature, along with a series of other factors, which is the determining one. In summer this organism usually plays a minor role. Frequently problems begin in autumn but it is only in January that plant operators are aware of them. Therefore it is necessary to start with effective countermeasures not later than October.

The first essential step is to examine the sludge microscopically to determine the type of bacteria and the amount present.

On must check that there is a sufficiently high oxygen supply.

The sludge age and quantity should be changed such that the bacterial growth is brought under control without limiting the efficiency of the plant nitrification process.

Ammonium upsurges must be avoided. These can be reduced by the introduction of a small dose of filtrate water which comes from the dewatering and thickening of the sludge.

By regular cleaning of the fat separator, fat elimination is improved.

Applications

Utopur® can be used in all municipal sewage treatment plants. For the best results and to ensure complete mixing Utopur® is added to the return-sludge before the inlet to the activated sludge tank.

Generally Utopur® is used in a high doses (approx. 200 ppm in design D.W.F.) during 5 to 7 days followed by a further 5 to 7 days at half the dose (approx. 100 ppm in design D.W.F.). At the same time the amount of dry solid material in the activated sludge tank drops. Changes in the filamentous bacteria (form, growth and number) are followed microscopically. Subsequently the use of the precipitating agent can recommence.

In practice the use of Utopur® is simple. If any problems arise the specialists from CU Water Processing are there to offer technical assistance and advice.

Advantages

With Utopur® the biological treatment of wastewater does not break down during the elimination of filamentous bacteria as the micro-organisms responsible for floc formation are unaffected by its use.

During the treatment the use of a precipitant may be stopped or considerably reduced. After the use of Utopur® the precipitant may be used again.

The use of Utopur® is simple, easy to control and of short duration.

Utopur® has been proven during many years of practical use. Apart from its use in the treatment of bulking and floating sludge Utopur® may can be used throughout the year in a similar way to iron salt based precipitating agents.
