Waste Management Such As Development of Solid Waste Management, And Supervision of Closed Landfill Restoration for the Waste Industry; And Waterside Developments

Waste Management

Black & Veatch has built up a substantial track record in waste management worldwide, over the last two decades, ranging from the development of solid waste management masterplans to the supervision of closed landfill restoration.

Drawing on a wealth of expertise in waste management, materials handling, power engineering, hydrogeology, leachate treatment and environmental management, we are able to offer sustainable solutions to almost any problem in the waste industry.

Areas of particular experience include:

  • Waste masterplans
  • Sludge disposal
  • Material Recovery Facilities
  • Landfilling
  • Composting
  • Site restoration
  • Waste-to-energy
  • Transfer stations
  • Environmental monitoring

Environmental pressures to conserve natural resources focus on the reduction of waste in all its forms. Commercial considerations will usually encourage minimisation of industrial wastes, while public awareness education may result in long term reduction in household waste production. We can help in assessing the optimum system for waste management in any situation.

We can design and supervise the construction of any form of waste handling, treatment or disposal facility. We have successfully engineered numerous transfer stations, waste-to-energy plants, material recovery facilities and landfill sites throughout the world. As well as designing facilities to meet all legislation requirements, we are able to demonstrate compliance through formally documented monitoring and audits.

Waterside Developments

Black & Veatch  is increasingly involved in waterside infrastructure, offering advice, planning and design. Starting with flood risk assessments in line with Planning Policy Guidance (PPG25), we complete surveys and investigations into the appropriateness and siting of infrastructure, as well as actual engineering and landscape design. In addition, we supervise construction and development of water frontage. From pre-acquisition due diligence to detailed condition surveys and assessments of river walls, we offer advice and guidance to a range of developers, government agencies, councils and harbour authorities.

Specific projects in recent years include work on over 30 urban regeneration sites along the Thames Estuary and Thames Gateway. These include strategic advice on the economic viability of water use and the possibility of expanding water-based transport, contaminated land advice, and drainage area and architectural masterplanning.
