City officials here are scheduled to vote on August 26 on a $1.8 million water recycling contract, according to an August 23 Star-Telegram article.
The contract would hire Fort Worth-based contractor Alan Plummer Associates to design an expanded water recycling system that would carry treated wastewater from the city’s Village Creek sewage plant as far as Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. The contractor also would help write contracts for the system’s users and develop a rate schedule, the article said.
Actual construction would have to be financed under future contracts, and Fort Worth Assistant Water Director Andy Cronberg said in the article that no cost has been attached to the construction phase yet.
The proposed wastewater recycling system would include 9 miles of 30-inch water main, a pump station and smaller mains to reach golf courses and other cities. The system likely would start pumping at 4 million gallons per day (mgd) but have a capacity to pump 10 mgd, Cronberg said.
The proposed water recycling system would more than double the city’s ability to sell recycled water. The proposed plan is in keeping with a statewide water initiative for North Texas that calls for the region to meet 26 percent of its new water needs through recycling. |
