Association of Desalination Specialists
The International Desalination Association is committed to the development and promotion of the appropriate use of desalination and desalination technology worldwide. We endeavour to carry out these goals by encouraging research and development, exchanging and promoting communication, and disseminating information. The IDA publishes periodicals and related information on desalination and the water reuse industry. We hold regularly scheduled desalination congresses every two years with an accompanying exhibition. IDA also sponsors several specialized seminars and workshops in different regions of the world during the year. We work together with our regional and association affiliates to coordinate activities that are of benefit to our members. IDA is a non profit association of over 1,000 members in 58 countries. The membership comprises of scientists, end-users, engineers, consultants and researchers from governments, corporations and academia. IDA is associated with the UN as part of a growing international network of non-governmental organizations.

IDA Membership Eligibility
Any person, firm, agency, or corporation engaged or interested in desalination or the water reuse industry is eligible for the general membership of the association, subject to acceptance by the board. General membership is classified under three classes: Organizations and Agencies (Class I): Governmental bodies, private organizations, agencies engaged or interested in the production, sale, distribution, regulation of water, or in desalination technology. Companies and organizations engaged or interested in research, design, production, sale, or distribution of goods and services related to the potential or actual production, distribution or consumption of desalted water, or in desalination technology. Class I Members receive: Reduced conference registration price at the IDA World Congress Reduced prices on exhibition stands at IDA exhibitions Ability to reserve premium exhibition stands at the IDA World Congress Reduced prices at all Association activities including conferences, seminars and workshops 35% price reduction for additional IDA individual memberships Complimentary conference proceedings on IDA website Complimentary subscription to the International Desalination & Water Reuse Quarterly Complimentary Membership Directory Annual subscription to IDA News 30% price reduction on the 2002 Desalting Plants Inventory #17 35% price reduction on The Desalination Directory 200-word company description and logo published in the Membership Directory Individuals (Class II): Individuals interested in the objectives and programs of the Association, or education, training, and/or research in any phase of the water sciences, or in desalination technology. To assure proper representation of the global community in the association, directorships are apportioned between the five regions (Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and Africa, North America and Pacific and Asia) in proportion to the number of Class I and Class II members in good standing in each region. USE OF DESALINATION TECHNOLOGY IN WATER PURIFICATION, WATER POLLUTION CONTROL, WATER SUPPLY, WATER REUSE AND WATER TREATMENT The goals of the association are the development and promotion of the appropriate use of desalination and desalination technology worldwide in water supply, water reuse, water pollution control, water purification, water treatment, and other water sciences and technology. Our objectives include: Encouraging research, development and the appropriate utilization of desalination, desalination technology and water reuse Exchanging and promoting communication, and disseminating information Serving as a public forum by providing information on related subjects and water reuse Encouraging and promoting the establishment of standards, specifications, and procedures Cooperating and communicating with national and international governmental, institutional, and private agencies in matters relating to research, development, and appropriate utilization of desalination, desalination technology and water reuse Promoting operator training and certification Encouraging and promoting the efficient use of water for energy Our strategies include: Coordinating meetings on an international basis Sponsoring or co-sponsoring major international and regional conferences Promoting and encouraging the establishment of affiliate organizations Arranging and conducting regional technical, training, management and technical transfer seminars, workshops and courses Publishing a technical journal, a newsletter, and/or other publications Assisting and establishing institutes, research foundations, and research and testing centres Assisting universities in developing and conducting courses and/or curriculum Contracting specific studies and projects to generate specific information needed for regional development or for the industry as a whole
