Aquatech International Corp. has received a water treatment contract for the Hawaiian Electric Co.’s 110 megawatt Simple Cycle Biofueled Power Plant in Honolulu. Aquatech provides equipment for water and waste water treatment, desalination, water reuse, and zero liquid discharge systems.
The power plant will use three different feed waters, namely saline groundwater, tertiary-treated grey water, and potable city water with high silica. To purify the water to the point where it’s usable, HECO will install 600 gallons per minute (GPM) media filters, a 400 GPM seawater reverse osmosis system, a 300 GPM HERO brand (high-efficiency reverse osmosis) system, a second pass 300 GPM reverse osmosis system and then a 300 GPM mixed bed system from Aquatech. All of the equipment is scheduled to be delivered in 2009.
The power plant will be a 110 megawatt, simple-cycle, peaking unit consisting of one combustion turbine generator and auxiliary systems. It will be located at HECO’s Barbers Point Tank Farm in Campbell Industrial Park, near existing power plants of independent power producers AES, Kalaeloa Partners and H-Power. Groundbreaking for the plant is expected in 2008 with operations starting by mid-2009. After testing and certification, the plant will be fueled 100 percent by biodiesel provided by Imperium Services LLC, a subsidiary of Imperium Renewables. |
