New York City beat 150 other New York communities in a tap water taste test held on August 26 at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, according to an August 27 article in Newsday.
New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Emily Lloyd said in the article this demonstrates the importance of maintaining the city’s water system. New York City is one of the few major US cities that does not filter its water, a situation due in large part to the clarity of water in its Catskill Mountains watershed.
