Many infrastructure-intensive industries, including utilities, telecommunications, cable and wireless providers, local and regional government and transportation, have pursued mobile computing for more than a decade as a means to better support their field crews and improve the efficiencies of getting field work done. But not everyone is convinced that prevailing approaches to mobile computing can really deliver credible sufficient benefits to justify the investment. And they may have good reason for their skepticism.
