WATER

At Black & Veatch we pride ourselves on our ability and record for providing sustainable solutions for all aspects of water supply & disposal throughout the world. Our professionals are highly experienced & innovative, and we have an outstanding reputation for technical excellence and partnering practices and achievements.

We are recognised world leaders in water and wastewater treatment process engineering and contract management for the municipal and industrial sectors, engaged in the design and construction of water and wastewater projects worldwide. As well as providing design, construction, installation and commissioning services, Black & Veatch can also prepare feasibility studies, arrange project finance packages, and provide training for operation and maintenance staff. Turnkey, Design/Build and EPC contracts are frequently undertaken.

With experience of countries and cultures across the globe, we are in touch with local issues and can tailor our services to satisfy local needs, whilst at the same time our global network of professionals provides access to expertise that only an organisation with true 'concept to decommissioning' capability can provide.

Water Resources

Black & Veatch have designed all forms of dams and water abstraction schemes across the world.  Our designers have provided solutions for some of the world`s largest raw water transfer schemes, using long distance pipelines and canals to alleviate drought and to provide the basis for sustainable development to many developing nations.

We are specialists in the design of tunnels for water/wastewater transport and the design of outfalls so that they minimise their impact on the environment.  We also devise river and coastal flood defence schemes.

Our experts advise government organisations and financial institutions throughout the world on the operation, maintenance and management of water assets. We provide Due Diligence and water regulations services, as well as providing experts for Public Inquiries and in legal disputes.

Water Treatment and Distribution

Black & Veatch have designed and built some of the world`s most prestigious and pioneering water treatment plants, producing world class solutions for utilities, governments and local authorities worldwide. It is estimated that 500 million people rely daily on water treated by the company`s processes, in places as far afield as London, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Ankara, Lagos, Mumbai and Hong Kong. As well as designing and building new facilities, projects involving the refurbishment and upgrading of existing plants are undertaken.

Proven processes are available to produce drinking water of the highest quality. We have specialist expertise in cryptosporidium control and our water distribution team works all over the world to provide solutions on water quality, leakage, metering and billings. We devise solutions for networks of all sizes including all aspects of modelling and the design of service & storage reservoirs.

Our specialist water/wastewater process team works on a worldwide basis under the name of Proteus (Process Team for Universal Solutions). This is a worldwide network of process experts co-ordinated by Frank Rogalla from our UK Offices.

Wastewater Collection and Treatment

,

Black & Veatch can solve all forms of wastewater treatment problems.  We have designed and built some of the largest and complex wastewater treatment plants in the world, for both municipal and industrial clients.  We work with clients from initial concept to final commissioning, and long-term operation if required, to ensure the best solution for each site. Many of the processes available, including conventional sewage treatment processes and biological nutrient removal, can be combined to provide the most effective, specific solution to ensure that required standards are met.

A Group global technology support facility ensures that Black & Veatch continues to develop innovative solutions to solve disposal and odour problems and minimise the environmental impact of treatment and disposal processes. Black & Veatch`s experience in sewage treatment and sludge digestion gives the company an unrivalled depth of knowledge, both in the design and construction of new plants and the refurbishment and upgrading of existing plant. This expertise has been acquired through successfully handling major wastewater projects throughout the world in a variety of conditions and climates.

We have specialist expertise in the areas of:

  • Urban Pollution Management (UPM) techniques for providing solutions to Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO).  Our teams of sewerage engineers and modellers have designed solutions to wastewater collection systems throughout the world and use sophisticated computer modelling systems to simulate the operation of sewerage and drainage systems in drainage area plans.
  • `No-Dig` solutions, involving state of the art microtunnelling and pipe-relining techniques for infrastructure renewal
  • Sustainable Drainage is a fast developing field, which mimics nature instead of using traditional pipes and sewer to provide solutions to urban runoff.  We are a leading exponent of this technique
  • Biological Nutrient Removal is a developing field and we employ one of its pioneers (Dr James Barnard - Pioneer of the Bardenpho process)
  • Sludge treatment and the management of the disposal/reuse routes. In particular our process team is currently providing the solution for the UK`s largest sewage sludge pasteurisation project

Our specialist water/wastewater process team works on a worldwide basis under the name of Proteus (Process Team for Universal Solutions). This is a worldwide network of process experts co-ordinated by Frank Rogalla from our UK Offices.

Wastewater Processes
